I have put this in here so that it get's a wider audience. Due to problems at work (broken database server) I have to work this Friday and Saturday replacing some dodgy hardware. Consequently I can not make this weekend. I have already booked and payed for for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) at the YHA in Ambleside. If you only have traces of water in your fuel due to poor quality fuel, then a couple of teaspoons of Meths in the fuel tank will usually cure the problem. An old trick I was taught in Oz where the quality of fuel can be doubtfull. Ivan

The thin brown wire probably went to a split charge relay. This is a sensor wire so that it doesn't provide power to the caravan battery when the engine is not running. What happens is that the alternator supplies 12v from this terminal. When the alternator is running this then goes to earth and so makes the circuit. A faulty split charge relay would mean it's trying to supply power all the time. Ivan

I have one thats for sale. It's a full length Australian Tradesman version. It has support all along the gutter lenth and mounting tabs for roof lights. It's not light but it has served me well in Australia, Russia, Morroco and Libya. I have never mounted a roof tent on it as I don't really like them. I also have a roof bag for it. this is basically a heavy duty canvas bag with zip up sides. Tie it on the roof rack, put your stuff inside and zip up the sides. It keep the dust and rain out. It's not a Flapper but a Lucus 14Cux. Have you got power to the fuel pump relay ? If not check the fuel cut off relay. This should be behind the dash (I think). This has a little plunger on it and is to disable the fuel pump in the event of an accident. Failing that you will have to trace the circuit. From memory there should be a feed to the fuel pump relay (via the cut off relay) from the ECU. Or it may go from the fuel pump relay to the cut off relay and then to the fuel pump. Ivan

FF The Bunny lane event sounds just right. No pressure or competition. Unfortunately won't have time to give it a go this time. My local pay and play sight (Devils Pit) run it as a business and so all they care about is getting punters through and thus maximising their take. A couple of years ago I went and saw three £50 Suzies come down a hill. They braked very hard and all piled into the back of the one in front. The first car endeded up about a foot off my rear bumper. All they did was laugh. Needless to say I was not very impressed. Rgds Ivan

Ben I had to replace the starter motor on my Discovery recently. Got a Prestolite one from my local independant dealer, it failed after two months. We then went through 2 more brand new ones which also failed before finally settling on a Bosch. I hope you have more luck than I did. Rgds Ivan

Lewis I think that type of attitude is what these challenges are trying to get away from. Some of us (me included) would not go near a challenge that provided the potential to cause damage to your daily driver. Fine you may not be bothered about damaging your car but for many of us it's also a daily driver and we can't afford to cause too much damage. I see these type of challenges as a nice gentle introduction. If you enjoy it and want to go to some of the more hardcore events that's fine. But if you want to stick to the easy non-damaging stuff then that's fine also. I stopped going to pay and play days due to the number of muppets driving around in a £50 Suzuki and not bothering if they hit something/someone else. My car has cost a lot of money and I don't want it ruined by a muppet in a £50 scrapper that they don't care about. Rgds Ivan

Streaky Not sure about heavier than standard but, my Discovery has a Bull bar fitted with a Milemarker winch at the front, a steel rear bumper and a cargo barrier inside plus a steel roof rack. So, I assume it's fair to say it's a bit heavier than a normal (and it's an ES 5 door). It's a 3.5V8i fitted with an LE1 cam and performer heads from Steve Lund (yes I know the problem you had). Basically I get around 190 to 200 miles on an 80ltr tank. When I went to the Pyranees in September I drove it very steadily and did not go much above 60 Mph. This returned almost 20 mpg. Forgot to add tyres are 235x85x16 BF Goodrich Trac Edge. HTH Ivan

When I lived in Darwin I asked the local LR dealer how much it would cost to adjust my door. He quoted me about 1/2 hour so I booked it in. Apparantly it took the mechanic about 3 hours. Still only charged for the 1/2 hour though, which I thought was a bargain. Ivan

Should do providing the dampers mount pointing the same way (i.e. on some Rangies they had one pointing forward and one pointing backward). If it's been left standing I would definitely strip and repair/replace the calipers etc. The internals should be ok providing it's had oil in the axle. Also check the wheel bearings. HTH Ivan

Bowie Maybe I'm missing something here but I am sure he said the front hubs would be freewheeling. In which case they won't be connected to anything until you put the hubs in. As such they can turn at whatever speed they want. Rgds Ivan
