  1. Hi there, I have an '03 Defender 110, recently it has developed an intermitttent screeching noise (not particularly loud) .. only when driving and mostly above 50 km/h. It's not there on every journey or for a full one. Kinda comes for a minute or so then goes then back etc. Braking seems to help. I got it serviced in September and had rear brake pads replaced ... could this be related? Any thoughts? Thanks Mark (Doohh .. put this in Discovery forum by accident!!)
  2. Cheers guys, I'll have a good look tomorrow!
  3. Cheers Western, everything seems to be working grand! I'll slap some insulating tape around the top and tape it to the body. Thanks Mark
  4. Hi there, recently I was fitting wing-top chequer plates. I noticed this wiring just hangin' in the air. Should I be worried? I had a look at the wiring book I downloaded for 02MY Defenders but couldn't work it out. Thought maybe it was for ABS .. which I don't have so it might make sense if LR had pre-wired for ABS and then install it later if ordered?? Or was it just the LR guys forgetting to connect back after my service? Any suggestions would be appreciated! It's a 2003 TD5 110 Utility SW Cheers Mark
  5. I'm a relatively new Landy owner .. 10 months with a 110 Defender .. already got several waves, index-finger waves and nods .. and I live in the outskirts of Dublin!! All from Defender owners .. and one Discovery driver (but he's a mate so doesn't really count)! .. Freelander and new Range Rover drivers wouldn't give ya the steam of their pi*s!! Can't imagine there's many other types of vehicle drivers that would be as friendly .. maybe VW Beetle drivers?! Cheers Mark
  6. Hi, Just wondering what peoples opinions are on the best type for rear window. I have a 2003 TD5 110 Crewcab with rear wiper and window brake light. I've found two types: From Paddocks http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/NEW_PRODUC...les_-_pair.html http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/NEW_PRODUC...MY_onwards.html And from Simmonites (which seem to be the standard type) http://www.simmonites.com/Defender%20exterior.htm (near the end of the page) Any thoughts? Cheers Mark
  7. Hi Bernie, I have a 2003 TD5 110 and I replaced the crappy LR radio with a nice Kenwwod one! There should be a small hole on either side of the unit, about 1cm in from the edge .. there's allen head screws in them .. get a 2.5mm allen key (think it was 2.5) and loosen them .. a wiggle and a pull and hopefully it should come out! Hopefully that will work on your '94 radio! There's a security code for the radio which you will need if you're going to re-fit it .. a main LR dealer will be able to help you with this if you don't have it. Didn't bother me as I had no plans for using it again! Mark
  8. British in Afghanistan use these wheels on their Landrovers! Does anybody know where you might be able to get your hands on a set of 5? Look more like alloys than steels
  9. Hi there, after fitting a new wiper motor and wiring for back speakers, I've done something to the instrument panel! I've worked out it's the bulbs on the fuel gauge and the engine temp gauge! Which is the right bulb RTC3635 (12V 1.2W) or RTC2268 (but this is 24V 1.2W)? Or can anybody recommend a replacement LED? Thanks Mark
  10. Hi there, Fitted new stereo and speakers .. sounds good .. certainly beats the LR one .. though that wouldn't be hard. So seems it's the bulbs in the fuel level and engine temperature dials. Does anyone know the part number .. is it PRC2268? This seems to be an instrument panel bulb 24V 1.2w. Or can anyone recommend some suitable LED equivalents? Thanks a million Mark
  11. Cheers guys, I'll have a look tomorrow .. fitting new stereo and back speakers .. so I'll look then! Thanks Mark
  12. Hi there, really silly question! When your main lights are on are the fuel level and engine temp dials supposed to light up?? I replaced my front wiper motor last weekend and I noticed they weren't working .. but then I couldn't remember if they worked in the first place .. just something that was automatic. Speedo and clock light up fine! thanks Mark
  13. Cheers Ralph, I'll try that tomorrow! Not 100% sure if it's the motor now! Went for a spin and tried the wipers .. there was some movement, so could be something else .. I'll look into tomorrow! Thanks Mark
  14. Cheers guys, anybody have any tips for getting the wipers themselves off .. have tried WD40 and a load of wiggling! Not a budge!! Breakers yard is closed on Saturday so will have to wait until Monday to try for motor!! Mark
  15. Hi, I have a 2003 110. What with all the rain lately in Ireland it was only a matter of time!! Anyways last night my front wiper motor decided to give-up-the-ghost!! Looking at the manual it seems a modified motor was fitted from 02MY on (couldn't find a part no. in manual). The problem is looking at Paddocks, Craddock, Island 4X4 and a few others, all that seems to be on offer is RTC3867 (which would appear to be for defenders upto 02MY). One place on eBay (Tamar4x4) was selling RTC3867 and saying it was good for all defenders to 2006! So I'm a bit confused! Is there a new parts number for the post 02MY motor? While I'm on I have a second question about wading plugs fro the TD5 (.. the rain's not that bad .. yet!!) . I've looking to see if a TD5 needs them? I have two in the little tool wrap .. but is this just LR being lazy and giving a "Tdi" tool kit!? I have looked at numerous fora and can't get a proper answer! Anybody know for sure whether a TD5 needs plug s or not? If yes photos of where it/they go would be cool! (I have had a look but can't really make out anywhere obvious!) Thanks a million! Mark
  16. Anyone looking for this book .. I just bought one of the new limited number version 2.1 from the Royal Geographical Society for a normal price (not the outrageous prices on eBay or Amazon) .. stg£40!! Brand new with a few updates!! Brilliant! Mark
  17. Thanks Guy .. good points about the theivery! Maybe I'll stick with the supplied counter-sunk bolts and nyloc nuts!! The fools also haven't a hole cut for the radio aerial!! Thanks everyone for the advice! Mark
  18. Thanks for the advice .. I have some rivnut ordered from eBay, so as soon they arrive I'll get to work .. bit by bit seems to be the way everyone has fitted them!! thanks again Mark
  19. Hi there, Recently got two wing-top chequer plates from Paddocks. They came with bolts, washers and nyloc nuts for fitting. It seems really awkward to fit using nuts and bolts .. would I be better off using rivnuts? Thanks Mark
  20. Hi All, what did I start? I reckon I'll still be going for BFG A/T or M/T! The Cros will probably a once off (famous last words!!) so I won't be splashing out on 'mainly-snow' tyres . need value for my cash so a tyre that will cover a range of terrains is what I need! Kev.. from what I can make out A/Ts are OK. On the website it says under "Matériel Obligatoire" that you need "Pneus tout-terrain" i.e. All-terrain! Thanks everyone Mark
  21. Hi, another newbie question! I just bought a 2003 Defender, which still has the factory-fitted General Grabber TR 235/85 16 tyres. On the tyre wall there is an M+S (for mud + snow I presume) .. is this for mud and snow on normal roads or is this for 'proper' mud and snow (i.e. off-road). So are these tyres all-terrain tyres like BFGoodrich ATs?? Ya see I fancy doing La Croisière Blanche in 2009, but they require you to have AT tyres (and snow chains) .. are Grabber TRs OK or do I need to splash out and get BFGs? Thanks Mark
  22. Thanks eveyone for advice, Unfortunately Diesel Jim don't seem to have any loose cables, so will have to do the same as Godlykepower (Martin some pics would be useful - thanks)! Having said that I am a bit of a newbie so finding alot of the components is slow. I bought the Haynes Defender workshop manual, but to honest it's not great! Does anyone have a good book to recommened (preferrably with lots of photos)? Thanks again Mark
  23. Wow Diesel Jim .. I'll check it out later .. fingers-crossed. That would save a lot of hassle! Thanks for the tip. Thanks Madcowz too! Mark
  24. Hi there, I recently bought a 2003 110 TD5 Utility Station Wagon (Crewcab). I will be getting a new stereo (one that plays something more up to date than cassettes!!). I also want to to put in two rear speakers, installing them in the divide between the cabin and the back. What's the best way to get the wires back .. will I have to take off the roof lining in order to run the wires back. Is it just easier to drop it in on next service and get 'the man' to do it? Thanks for any info Mark
