Hi Steve
That's the 2a on the lifts and a 3 under it. Bought the 3 and fitted a new chassis to it, then came across the 2a and thought that would be an easy one to finish!
I'll pull the engine back out again and measure the clutch heights.
Cheers
Paul
It was a second hand cover a friend gave me as he thought that's what should be fitted, I didn't realise there were three types of covers or I could of measured the depth before refitting engine. I take it that there is nothing between the cover and the clutch release? My box is same as the picture David posted above in bellhousing rather than the usual clutch release bearing.
Thanks all
Initially I couldn't get clutch pedal to work, found out the master cylinder was piped up wrong way round.
Sorted that then found that release bearing wasn't moving, removed engine and found the pins missing in the cross shaft, fitted them and refitted engine. Then clutch wouldn't disengage, removed engine again and removed the bottom clutch and fitted the top but still doesn't work.
I don't recall seeing a spacer on the slave cylinder, I'll take a look.
I'll also check m/c settings but the release bearing is virtually fully out before it touches the cover plate.
Thanks Steve, I take it I may need a diaphragm type with spacer then? As currently with the top one fitted there's around an inch gap so release bearing isn't sitting close to the cover, or should the top one work also? I can't see any issues with the slave cylinder or crossbar that moves the release bearing.
Hi thanks, it's all new pipe work and cylinders.
I think it's either the wrong clutch or release bearing mechanism, for some reason the release bearing isn't sitting near the clutch cover
Hi
I've got a series 2a which someone has started restoring. It's got a 2.25 diesel engine in with the 2a gearbox.
I cannot get the clutch to disengage, the release bearing mechanism is about an inch off the clutch cover so everything bottoms out before the bearing touches the cover.
I've removed the clutch cover which was 9.5 inch and fitted a 9 inch cover and plate but it's still the same.
Any ideas?
Cannot get photos of clutches to upload.
9.5 inch was finger type cover and 9 inch coil spring type cover
Thanks
Paul
Hi thanks for the reply, after trying to bleed again this morning we replaced the slave cylinder and managed to bleed it up, I will look into renewing both the slave and master cylinder
Hi fitted a second hand gearbox to sons disco 1 today and whilst at it renewed the clutch, Borg and Beck, built it all up and no pedal, bled off even though never touched hydraulic side, but can only get half pedal, suspect can't be clutch or bearing, fork etc as it does drive, before I try back bleeding tomorrow has anyone get any other suggestions? TIA
Thanks for reply Reiny, I'm thinking of removing lt77 mounts and using the disco xmember, locating the gear levers in existing tunnel hole, securing disco xmember to chassis and then fitting engine, just not sure if engine will be too far forward, I've read that it will fit, others say if the engine is in standard 300tdi position then the gear levers still won't fit in tunnel so don't want to start fitting gearbox to find out engine is too far forward!
Few mistakes, predictive spelling! No idea how to edit!
Been doing some more research and can't seem to get a definite answer, if the gearbox has the adapter, and if the disco engine and box are both fitted with the gear levers located in the existing tunnel cutout will the engine be in the 300tdi position or not? Some say it will others say if the engine is in the 300tdi position the levers with the mod will still need the tunnel modifying.
As we are fitting the complete 300tdi and disco R380 then we need to fit Ashcroft conversion piece, drill and fit xmember so gearsticks are in correct position, fit engine and weld on new brackets, as we've sold the LT77 gearbox what else will we need? Sticks, remote? What do you use to fix xmember to chassis, not looking at it but don't think can get behind to put buy on? After all located then just sort propshafts out and most likely p'steering pipes as different threads? TIA
So as we are fitting 300tdi engine and disco box, welding the original 300tdi mountings on and fitting the disco xmember it's just a case of extending propshafts, probably a couple of pipes to modify and fit the adapter from Ashcrofts, problem is serve got nothing from the LT77 gearbox so what do we need to get to go onto the disco box? TIA
