  1. Thanks for the help. Working fine now. Dumped a bunch of bardahl B.D.C. in it. Right now just using it to drive the dogs up the mountain out back. Next step - get some plates for it so I can drive it on the CH roads.
  2. winter diesel. Am a newbie I guess. Still running the cheap stuff from the UAE!
  3. We had our first below zero night here in Switzerland. Defender started this am but the fuel pump was screaming then I lost all power. Subsequent attemps to start yielded the most pathic barely on performance I've ever heard. Having lived in the land of permanent summer for a while, getting used to winter is hard enough. Having no defender makes it far worse. I tried a search on this topic, but all I came across were usefull posts on how to install heaters, but nothing getting the motor to run. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jason
  4. Jason, I had the same problem, I think right before leaving for Cheeze land. There might even be a post arround describing it. I strongly beleive that the problem was caused by the mechanics simply not knowing much about the TD5. All TD5 owners ought to band together and negiotiate with a garage to train someone on TD5 in exchange for your collective continued patronage. I took it into AAA for a clutch. I forget the chronology but they couldn't start it because in their view the cranking sensor failed. New sensor was put in and then when I came to pick it up they couldn't start it. I had them do the purge right infront of me. Didn't work. They put more diesel in purged and it didn't work. Long story short they jetted of to GS in Sharjah before closing, got a new fuel pump and eventually all was ok. I was very suspicous that the faiures were on their end. To their credit they did work through the night and on friday to fix it and didn't charge me for the labor. Sharkey was kind enough to pick me up when the car wasn't ready so he might provide some weight in any argument if you used the same people. Let us know the resolution and finnaly make sure they get it done before Eid! Best, Jason
  5. Hello all, I've imported my Tomb Raider 90 from Dubai to Switerland. I've noticed different bits on the Swiss defenders, this plus the all the raised middle fingers about the black smoke makes me think that and figure that I've got to do a little work on my Gulf spec to make it legal here in CH. eventually I will afterall need Swiss Plates. I've talked to the dealer in Lausanne, but they don't seem all that engaged/interested. Does anyone have advice about where I might find someone who might assit. A big bonus would be the ability to speak English. Also somewhere between Geneva and Lausanne would be best Thanks and best, Jason
  6. Yellow: It's not the Freelander engine? Does anyone know the specs? Been thinking of moving up from a 90 to a 110. Hillbilly: Yep. Crammed the tomb raider in the container from Dubai and it is now parked behind my house here in Switzerland. Still has the Dubai plates as I haven't figured out how to register it. Actually thinking of trading it for a 110 but just an idea right now.
  7. I was just at the dealer picking up my wifes Range. Talked to the staff there and saw some paper from LR saying the 2007 Defender will have an improved interior and get this - a TD4 - engine. Appoligize if this is old news, but a TD4? Is this a viable engine, my td5 is only acceptable after being chipped.
  8. Hello All, Its been a while since I've posted but hoping that someone can save me from a lot of pain. The alarm is going off shortly after my fiancee locks her new 4.6 1998 p38 (27k km). The calls keep coming to me here at work. I haven't had a chance to actually see what the problem is as I'm stuck here at work. Does any one have any quick ideas/fixes? She already wants me to take it to the dealer. Not a cheap option here in Switzerland (just moved here from Dubai) I will search for threads but I can't now. If it matters, its very important this gets fixed fast. If she starts hating LRs its going to be a lot more difficult to justify my Defender. Thanks, jason
  9. Hello All, My final prep for the move from Sunny Dubai to cold and cloudy Switzerland is underway. One of the joys of moving is filling out insurance forms. As the shipping company appears to be rather questionable, I'm taking this excercise a bit more seriously this time. What do you think the replacement value of LHD tomb raider 90 would be in Switzerland? I have all the bits to make it stock, it has a Dealers FSH with 53k and a new clutch. I have a general feel for the middle east market but have heard stories about astronomical prices in Europe. I know this might be a strange request, but your insight will be very helpful. Thanks and best
  10. Thanks for all the answers. Nice to hear from actual people instead of the shills down at the tyre shop. Moving to Lausanne. A bit ignorant of CH right now. Where is Chiasso? Will miss the desert and the ability to drive almost anywhere you want. Regardless am bringing the 90. Anywhere to drive close to Lausanne. A LR or 4x4 club that organizes bimbles. Absoulte novice when it comes to driving on most things besides sand. On the tyron: was looking at the owner info/gtr website and saw they had instructions for installing tyron bands. Apparently they are an official LR accessory now. Bad customer service I'm used too. Here in the Middle East it is appalling. Could go on for hours but thats annother thread. So for my purpose, giving me a little extra margin of saftey if I have a blowout on the motorway, do you think it will work. Anyone have them and pleased? Thanks
  11. Yep. Meant the nut. Thanks for the replies. I haven't compared vins or anything but the other 90 is also a tomb raider bought from the same dealer. Chances are they were produced at the same time so maybe it could be a defective nut or something like that. All very odd but i guess this is what makes the whole thing interesting.
  12. Does anyone have an opinion about tyron saftey bands on a 90? I like the idea but don't like the cost (2000+AED or over 300 gbp) plus I only know one person who runs them. Before tyron it seemed like every trip he'd be off rim at least once, but after the install he has yet to loose a tire. Off road performance is important plus, but in my case what I'm really worried about his preventing a catastrophic blow out on the highway. Anyone have any ideas? Also any estimates on price in Europe. Moving to CH next month, and though I doubt that Switzerland is cheaper than Dubai, if the price is better there I'll wait. Thanks, Jason
  13. Jason 2? What is this cr@p! I am the OJ (original Jason)! I can't help it if some pommy came over and bought a TR. Same name and both have tomb raiders. A few simple ways to tell us apart. Mine's the one without spinners, only has the roof rack on when there is stuff in it, and does not sound like an angry bee buzzing always buzzing around low gear. Another differentiator, though it doesn't work so well any more as JJ (Jason Jr.) is improving, is that if you can't see the license plate bcs its buried halfway through a dune that would have to be JJ. He is improving though, last weekend he recovered a TOUR OPERATOR LC. Was beautiful. Trying to track down a pic. While we are waiting here is a scary one from the empty quarter. and another of me as a jelly mould owner. Jason
  14. I've noticed that the lower link retaining bolt on the passenger side of LHD TD5 90s comes loose rather easily. On mine it was still tight but clearly several mm forward of the other rear arm, on a friends it had spun almost to the end of the threads leaving a cm or more of open threads between it and bush. His drove a bit like a drunk driving simulator. Are these loose bolts a normal thing? Begining to think I ought to treat the 90 like a helicopter (tighten down all the nuts after each trip). I don't ind doing this, in fact I rather enjoy it. While I'm at it is there anything else that needs tightening/looking after? Oh, and one final bit of conspiracy theory: (a genre so popular here in the middle east) both of our 90s were recently serviced by the main dealer. Drove well going in, swerved all over the place shortly after coming out.
  15. Thanks. I guess what they mean by crank instead of "cranking" sensor. Looked it up and it looks like it could have been damaged durring the cluch replacement. Do you agree? I told them to fix the problem, but assumed that they were the cause and would therefore pickup the tab. We will see I guess, I'll let you know how it works out.
