  1. I have considered welding them in but it’s a bit of a permanent solution to something that can be damaged easily. The option to change them out if needed is appealing. Did you happen to see how much room there is between the portal box and the back side of the hub?
  2. I have no idea what that means😂 2 updates on this in as many days! Bit of a story, a Facebook post lead to a traveler's site, which lead to meeting a guy, which lead to all 4 hubs and 4 spacers being done within 24hours! Everything lined up and fits nicely! so the spacer fits over and is welded to the hub to take up the space I’ve lost from no longer using the landy hub. It also gives me more meat to tap into if I need to use wheel bolts instead of studs. so that’s the basic assembly of it all the holes are undersize as I don’t know if I’m using knock in studs or tapping out and using bolts. I’m not sure on the clearance behind the hub to the portal box so may have to do something like @FridgeFreezer and peen some studs in there…
  3. Stable, we call it stable😂 min all honesty though, I don’t regret making it that heavy. It rolls really smoothly and doesn’t rattle around like other carts
  4. Having a big tidy up at the moment and one way of me getting back some much needed space was to have one cart for both welders. I tried this with a cart I already had and it diddnt appreciate the extra weight and I diddnt appreciate losing the storage, only being able to carry one gas bottle and having to kneel on the floor to adjust settings on the tig. Been watching a guy on YouTube called “ratha sochenda” who makes everything he can and does very clean work so checked out his cart and it fits the bill. I bought the plans from his Etsy store for £20 and got on with it. this design called for 25x50x1.5mm box and 25x25x1.5mm…….well I diddnt have that to hand so channeled my inner HFH and made from is 50x50x3mm and 30x30x3mm which I did have and as a result, it’s somewhat on the weighty side Diddnt take many photos of the actual build because this was a big rush job but here’s we’re we’re at now…. it’s still unfinished but the bones are there. controversially I have gone for castors on all 4 corners, everyone said that would be a mistake but it actually rolls around very nicely. And yes they’re welded on, it was quicker and I’m not doing to take them off again. still need to make a retainer for the bottles still a bit undecided on weather or not I should have the tig rods on the cart or not I’ll also be re designing the handle. The initial plans call for 2 100mm box stand offs with a piece of tube welded between them. This works but I need a bit more leverage and want the handle coming out further to protect the mig torch socket so some nice bent up tube will do. all in all a good little build the man’s channel is here: https://youtube.com/@RathaSochenda?si=2vkylkIjjIZnygKQ and the video to his cart is here: Can’t seem to kink his Etsy but it’s on his channel. Hopefully this helps someone on here out
  5. Small update, a day of jumping between a lathe and working on a friends truck, swarf in the eye and a hub coming loose in the Chuck I have these all 75% done just need to trapan what’s left of the wheel flange off of some of them….. or grinder and bringing to size. Then drill holes. after my rethink of using the landy hubs I thought about basically getting the same thing made out of steel with some bigger holes in it……then at 3am ( when all my ideas happen) I realised that all that is, is a wheel spacer. D2 to defender pattern fits the bill and and a google search later showed only 2 people made such a thing that wasn’t a piece of trash; a guy in Latvia……..and Rakeway. In the end, I went with Rakeway and to be fair, they did a good job in a fairly timely manner. Spacers, studs, nuts and boring out the centre hole for me for a reasonable price in 3 weeks. I now just need a 10mm spacer made up to give back what I lost from the landy hub. so that’s that untill I finish tidying the work space. Trying to come up with a decent solution to a mobile rack I can put these axles on and wheel around. Have seen some online but 150 for them seems a bit excessive for something I would still be crawling around on the floor when I could make something.
  6. Can use these, the special tool can be avoided by using a normal crimping tool working through the different sizes
  7. When you get it running you’ll wonder what you were worried about, it looks a lot but it’s not that bad. There isn’t a great deal it’ll actually need
  8. Just waiting for @landroversforever to offer out his corner scales….😂
  9. I mean….sure why not, but I don’t think the space is there either. RRC rear springs are 170lb and options on length. These will fit in the same space as he has now.
  10. I prefer thinking of it as more aerodynamic, weight reduction or wipe clean😂
  11. Don’t you have a 1UZ conversion to finish😂 thanks for the offer but I would feel bad taking up more of your time. when I actually get some spare time I can slap everything together and get making stuff. Not sure how you’ve done it on yours but I’m trying to keep everything the same on all 4 corners to minimise the ammount of parts I need to carry. I just need the hubs squaring off, the landy hubs bored out and shaved so I can get it rolling. I may take a grinder to a hub and relieve it between the wheel studs a bit to see if I can get the disk on and off without pulling things apart. If/when it comes to making new drive flanges it would be fairly simple although they need to be 40mm thick. But that’s a job for later
  12. Not really mate, still recovering from tearing the Achilles and have only just got back to work. They are at the state where I can bolt them under the truck and check angles though. Had plenty of time to think about stuff while I was off, the hub is giving me doubts as pointed out by you and others. I think I’ll get them all spun up for mock up and proof of concept and then have some steel hubs made to take the place of the landy hubs….that way I have the ability to weld them and/or have some sort of drive dog in there. My lathe guy is working abroad at the moment so unsure of when I’ll be able to get those done so I can keep moving. Yes but I dare say you get more done than me due to your gross efficiency😂
  13. Faffing or exploring avenues to new skills? sometimes the journey is more important than the destination
  14. Can’t work out if that’s a swipe at me or not….
  15. how do you gif on here?! I feel my ability to convey my true feelings lacking without being able to gif!
  16. I also thought that but there is probably more than you think with the weight of the engine and gearbox pivoting on the mounts and trying to split while driving. It’ll be worse Offroad.
  17. Can you Weld a tube in to the adapter and use a longer bolt? Could even do it dirty and weld the steel bolt in with the ali and then extract said bolt
  18. Exactly this You don’t need the filler, just blast it with the arc and you’ll see all the junk coming out. When you’re done you should have a shiny surface to attack with the spool gun
  19. If you have one I would blast that with ac tig to pull the imperfections out of the castings before just hitting it with the spool gun.
  20. As you have the lr housing and reference holes now, could you not section some 1” steel up and weld it together using the bellhousing as a jig? You can flatten it off with a multi setup on the mill or a rotary table
  21. Seller: “This listing a rush-job” Also seller: let me write an essay on why I’m right and everyone else is wrong, how many different kits there are, parts and history of those kits and make sure I get some damn forum quotes in there so people know I’m serious
