  1. how do you gif on here?! I feel my ability to convey my true feelings lacking without being able to gif!
  2. I also thought that but there is probably more than you think with the weight of the engine and gearbox pivoting on the mounts and trying to split while driving. It’ll be worse Offroad.
  3. Can you Weld a tube in to the adapter and use a longer bolt? Could even do it dirty and weld the steel bolt in with the ali and then extract said bolt
  4. Exactly this You don’t need the filler, just blast it with the arc and you’ll see all the junk coming out. When you’re done you should have a shiny surface to attack with the spool gun
  5. If you have one I would blast that with ac tig to pull the imperfections out of the castings before just hitting it with the spool gun.
  6. As you have the lr housing and reference holes now, could you not section some 1” steel up and weld it together using the bellhousing as a jig? You can flatten it off with a multi setup on the mill or a rotary table
  7. Seller: “This listing a rush-job” Also seller: let me write an essay on why I’m right and everyone else is wrong, how many different kits there are, parts and history of those kits and make sure I get some damn forum quotes in there so people know I’m serious
  8. That is a very interesting point that I had not considered. I knew how noise cancelling worked but diddnt put 2 and 2 together…… Ross maybe stop being a little bitch and just get earbuds and some decent ear defenders over the top😂
  9. I was going to say this. Should be a bit more forgiving as it’ll be a flywheel on there, not a flex plate
  10. Thanks, I’ve found if I type “engineers file” into google I get better results than the normal screwfix condenders
  11. Need recommendations on some new files Fairly mundane ask but I’m doing more and more file work of late and found that the readably available ones arnt really cutting it(HA!) been to a few steam shows and looked around the old tool stalls there and although spoilt for choice a lot of them have had their day. any recommendations on brands to look for?
  12. Forgot to say to you the other day, we have some noise active ones for shooting. They are Bluetooth aswell so maybe that’s an avenue to go down. You can still have a chat while wearing them and as soon as the noise goes up they cut it out. Can’t find the ones we have but if you type it in to Amazon you seem to avoid the H&S price tag you Can also turn the mic up so you can hear what’s going on on the other side of the room😂
  13. Can’t say100% he claimed to run KOH where he snapped a flange off of a narrowed mog casing. Don’t get me wrong, this truck does not see an easy life but just thinking out loud that clutch dumps and side loads from helical gears will kill a portal box before an r380…..happy to be proven wrong though
  14. that was a reinforced box, the guy had to resort to a fabricacet box at $750 each looking at it though, it’s nothing beyond his capabilities. Almost simple😂
  15. Due to the portal reduction I would be surprised if it ever saw that without extreme violence. I recently found a thread demonstrating the consequences of the side loadings in the portal box with 400hp so potentially the gearbox is not the weak link
  16. And that is the difference between engines that were designed 50 years apart
  17. We’re getting a bit muddled here. Horsepower is a byproduct of torque (torque x RPM / 5252) so the 1uz will always make more power than the rover due to it revving higher. The rover(from my experience) makes good torque low down which is why I like it….which the Lexus doesn’t have so it’s all relative in the end number. ultimately it doesn’t matter as the torque to the ground is delivered by the gear reduction, it is the RPM that Stephen wants/needs. So the Lexus engine is a good choice. and he already has it so there’s no need to justify choices anymore. anyway what transmission do you plan on using Stephen?
  18. If sid is on 37s(can’t quite remember), uses the defender lt77 and the 1uz goes to 8k theoretical speed is over 150mph low table is still the same
  19. They were for some Slush box I believe. I can’t find the post so it might have sold Give me 5 minutes
  20. Aaahhh diddnt know you were going through with it, I know a guy with a turn key 1uz, gearbox and adapters for sale. Going to be a little screamer though. How much does that engine weigh?
  21. I have been doing this sort of thing for years and for some reason I always think I can achieve more in a day than I actually can…anyone else get that? what I did achieve was a mock up template of the caliper mount, tapped the hub for the disk and mounted everything up to check clearances. Happy to say that everything looks good! did make a boo-boo though, using the disk I have and a landrover hub means I have to take a hub off to change the disk. I wanted to avoid this but it is what it is. it’s tight but it fits the mock up bracket is just a 3mm thick piece of alli which sped the shaping up alot, stuck some bolts and assorted nuts through it enabling me to wind the bracket in and out so I could get the thickness of the permanent bracket right….turns out that’s 40mm. Could use some 40mm thick aluminium or some plate steel with spacers behind it to make up the difference. The bracket itsself picks up off of 2 of the bolts on the portal box. I’m not sure if this will be ok though… on the one had 40mm out from the mounting face is a bit much for just 2 bolts and on the other it’ll be a lot more ridged than the landrover rear setup.
