  1. Thanks Guys! This was a rough Transfer Box job, but we got it done. Thank you for all the helpful tips... it was a real head scratcher. BTW: The failure was what I thought... the chain inside the transfer box broke due to poor lubrication.
  2. Thanks Guys! Yes, I thought the Gear box needed to come down more, but didn't want to get into that until I got some verification. @duncmc, it is an underbody panel that is in the way. It actually sticks out about an inch past where it needs to, but I think it would be in the way anyhow. So it looks like I have to remove the fan, the Gear Box mount and the big cross memeber. Right now I'm stuck on the fan clutch. Some inept tech replaced the generator, and it looks like he used a pair of vice grips and some other ungodly tool to get the fan clutch off... the bolt is nicked and cracked, and quite possibly has some lock tite hidden under there. I have the correct tool (same size as for my BMW fan clutch, although the clutch on the Bimmer is reverse threaded), but he cranked it down so tight I can't get it loose. Thanks for the input... it is really appreciated. I'll hammer away on the fan clutch until it comes loose, then pray the Transfer Box slides off nice and easy.
  3. Hi All; this is my first post to this forum. I am trying to replace a transfer box in a 1993 Range Rover. I'm in flood ravaged Colorado and flatbeading her to the shop isn't practical. I have her on ramps and the job is half way done thanks to a great blog here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=14601 This helped me figure out almost all the hard stuff. In the blog, he fixed a different year vehicle, so there were some differences. One is that on the 1993 model you only remove the center console to get to the access panel. On his, the driver seat cushion was removed. The other main difference is the clearance between the Gear Box and the Transfer Box. On mine, the case does not have anough room to slide off the main drive shaft. Here's what it looks like: Does Anyone know what I have to do to make room?
