Sorry I am coming to this a bit late, but I have disco diffs and an overdrive in my SWB truck cab with a 2.5 na diesel and it goes really well. The overdrive is only useful on the motorway and once going over 60 it will stay there. I found 7.50 tyres too tall for normal driving and it would struggle on hills. Been running it for a few years now and used most days. No real off roading though. Around 25 to 30 mpg and will go faster than I have dared drive it.
I was hoping not to weld but I may have to. I havent owned a gipsy for 20 years but used to have two. I had the 2.2 bmc deisel and thats why I laugh when people tell me I will find the rover engine slow. Mine were leaf springers too and I have been a fan of them ever since. Interesting history and with a little more luck and investment could have been a great vehicle. After the series 3 is finished maybe I will look for one

I have put a 2.5 na deisel from a 90 into my series 3 swb. While mucking about with the radiator this morning I noticed the front prop, the splines grease nipple to be exact, is only millimetres from the engine breather pipe coming from the sump. Parabolics are fitted. Anyone had a similiar problem? or fitted an alternative sump?
Any advice appreciated.
I am trying to put a 12j, actually 11j, but same thing I think, into my series 3. Anyway it is out of a 90 and I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction to find some pics or a blog on fabricating or welding the chassis mounts for this engine. I have an 88 with the2.25 petrol.
Hope someone can help
