  1. i'll be running the front of the pack on the baskerville. doubt i can be bothered to drag my sorry carcass out for the santas tho. its winter dont you know!
  2. first up, how ****in dare you insinuate that we cheat. secondly, it's funny, there is a camera right next to us, yet no photo of the tape being broken. thats odd. so all you idiots who have no brain, think what you like, those who do play ball properly know fine right that there are people who do take the tiddle with the tape. anyone else have comments to make i'll be at the bar at the dinner dance. lets hear it to my face.
  3. a big thanks to neil, to carol, the scruiteneers, to all of the marshalls, and to all the sponsors who have put together and laid out the uk's premier winch challenge series. helmets off to the lot of you. cheers. another good result for chris and i. it was the end of an era today since the range rover is now sold. we shall see if next year will bring the success that this year has? still quite amazed at todays result, despite the rather less than special start from chris and myself. (admitadly i had a bit of a monk on)(i had my reasons!) see you all at the dinner dance.
  4. oh. ok then!? nevermind. just a little add on the whole money thing. cars and bulding them is not massivly pricey, unless you do it in a month. taken years to bulid my shed. dragging it all over the country on a fifteen hundred quid trailer with a thirsty disco is what costs. a year ago it was (literally) half the price. but as said, that is another topic.
  5. another excelent event so a big thanks to everyone who put it together. had a few issues, no brakes. at all. and then a coolant hose put an end to it all. quick question to neil or a marshal, what did we get a penalty for?
  6. see you all there. simon wilkinson and chris abel. land rover 90 1.
  7. so there we have it. an organised event!? let me know when it will start! wouldnt mind comming up for a play. and if not i'll help out. si
  8. a very good idea alan. an event run by competitors. you know how you want it. just a thought but, why not make it so each team, one or two cars, sets out a punch. say run about the site saturday and set up. 10am till 4. then a bit of a social nite and serious drinking time. sunday is comp time. that way, everyone knows where the sections are and no individual team can be said to have an advantage over another. we all want solid sections, so lets make them. a nice weekend away, some competition, and not too much hassle to organise, as the entrants are doing it?
  9. infact a £50 suzuki mot failure may be more capable and almost certainly more reliable than my off roader, which will be appearing at tong and slindon. (cue someone else on the podium!!!)
  10. give jim at gigglepin a call, incidentaly, they were the first place prizes at this weekends event.
  11. as before, another superb event, a big thank you from chris and i to neil and team for organising it all, to the marshals for their work over the weekend and to gigglepin for sponsoring the round and laying in some awesome prizes and some good looking pictures for us all to look at, cant read whatever language it was tho! so thanks to jim at GIGGLEPIN and if anyone feels that they need anything i would recomend his services. especially for the unrivaled performace of the (now freespooled) twin motor 8274. cheers guys. see you at round 7.
  12. before i offend you i fully understand and appreciate what you are talking about and being an engineer i too have been in a&e more times than i would like to to have material scrapped off my eyeball surface. it is not pleasant. now my reply, come on, if this thread keeps going off on what protection we could really do with to ensure safelt we'll be wrapped in rubber wet suits wearing snorkels, masks, and condoms. i am taking a reasable assumtion that all the participants know the various risks involved in our sport. chris was trying to eliminate one of them, not make up a million means to safety. although i would say that is a competitor wanted to wear any such safety equipment, i would fully respect and agree with such usage.
  13. get rid of them. i also think.... ban steel rope on events and then you'll not need to use blankets, with the exception of wiching across tracks. simple. and before evryone starts on me about the price of plasma etc, dont bother. be honest, what would a winch blanket do to slow down a steel cable that has just snapped and heading toward you. answer: very little. what cost more? synthetic limbs or synthetic rope? this is the 21st century, the sport has evolved and the day of steel cable is behind us. i'm talking about safety, not ease of useage.
  14. come off it! the red mist will have dropped way before my hangover clears, you'll already be 5 ahead of us! i (we) plan on being "on it" saturday evening social. PIGSTER, deal still on!
  15. another one to look forward to! have chris and i let our secrets slip? will mr kemp and mr belton give us a little more competition?!!!?
  16. work is in progress. fingers crossed i'll be able to keep up with all of mr abels 400 horses next year. as for bananas and red bull, that is my diet, come on, you wouldnt think i'm this shape without it!? the only beaver i'm breeding with is part of a girls anatomy! as for eveyone moaning about "when your hose fails and you kill someone... blah blah blah. i hope like hell that the ball joints on my low loader dont fail. because that will be nearer 150ton of steel which wont be stopped by a lot. people will die. a challenge truck will not be going more than 40 (at the absolute most) and at the worst case you can slam on the anchors and stop in under 50 yards regardless of direction. as for mots and all that ****, can all those who dont have concrete facts, thats is anyone who is going on rumour, hearsay, my mate said this, barry from bodgeitandscarper motors said this.... SHUT UP MOANING ABOUT SOMETHING WHICH IS OUT OF THEIR CONTROL. and if not, tell me the difference between a fastrac and a challenge truck. anyone who knows anything will steer well clear of, "agricultural tax" because that is a bul**** answer for those who waste the use of such a machine. rant over.
  17. i pleed guilty as charged. although a set of chains is a little harsh!?!?!
  18. nuff said. anyone who thinks otherwise come see me for a little enlightenment. face to face. nicely put alan. fair play rob. now my bit. listen in. i've got no issues with rob. first and foremost, he saved me and chris a few mins on punch one. thanks mate. i think all this has been blown out of proportion by some actions and or words that have been taken the wrong way or way out of place. BUT. AS WE ALL KNOW, SOME WASTERS DO PERSIST ON TAKING THE tiddle WITH THE ROPE. if thats what you think you need to do to get the punch, get on some novice events - because you dont. infact why bother even turning up. can some one please enlighten all of us the whole point of the sport? - to got your vehicle to obscure places, using skill, determination and wit. if you need to cheat you really ought be some joey parking posh peoples cars in bays at the hilton on your weekends. you may find it more satisfying.
  19. my view: weather is an added degree of challenge, and agreed, that on some sites the water level can be "frowned" upon as it can change competetive element to more of who is prepared to get very wet, and or risk vehicle damage. it is not something that any marshal or organiser can change. this then must be taken on board by all involved and if necesary changes to vehicle to comply with any such condition. either way, i believe that all the organisors and marshalls set out yet another fantastic event so a very big thank you to all those who put it together.
  20. as it says, what would the audience recomend and what have you had good results from. looking at possibly replacing 2 excides. (running 2 alternators into one single 24v system with 50mm cable)
