Rear Multileaf Springs with Front Parabolics
Arjan replied to Cornish Rattler's topic in Series Forum
I suggest you load her up as you'd to for a trip and weight her, both total and per axle. This gives you solid information you can take to spring specialists and see what they have to say. Airsprings could also be an option - but I suggest a visit to the weight bridge. -
Welcome to the Madhouse. Without a suitable computer you're wasting time, money and energy. LR3 & LR 4 are complicated vehicles and without a proper computer tool you'll be chasing ghosts. Courage !

Good ! Alwiays nice to read a positive result !

Not sure about UK. In Holland / France, a horse rider is seen as a "driver" and must have at minimum a 3rd party insurance. So, rider is liable for the actions of the horse.

Thanks !! Looks like you've had a great time ! Please keep the pictures coming..

Superwinch H14W Handbook / Manual / Partslist search
Arjan replied to Arjan's topic in International Forum
Thank you VERY much !!!!! Useful. I contacted Mr. D. Bowyer and he pointed me to somebody i'll try to contact next week who just may have more... It seems I have also became the (proud / sad / ... ) owner of a PTO driven one.... -
Yes, track needed to be closed basically for these to have an outing.. Back in the Nineties, a project was started within NS (Dutch State Railways), to make one of these my office as their Customs specialist. Thinking was that as my work was rail related and all freight offices had rails, I could drive my office there.. I got 3 days training driving these things. These "Motorpostwagens" were made redundant a few years earlier and could be converted by the railworkshop behind my office in Amersfoort.. I seriously doubted the project and eventually it was abandoned. Would have been fun !!

"..I'd love one like that as a company car! .." No, you don't. Have driven a few over the years and they're usually sluggish (loads of tools in the back) and the added boogies make them in corners.... interesting. Also, getting them positioned on the tracks is not always easy as the famous steering works against you. However, they do go once on the track 😉 Braking requires a soft foot. Most are limited to 45 km/h on track. Those extra steps are really useful as they are quite high to get into sitting on rails.

I have been privileged to obtain a Superwinch H14W Hydraulic winch - October 1999 origin. Plan is to fit it to a 110 and to make the bookshelf a bit fuller, I'm looking for some booklets. Superwinch - it seems - made an instruction pamphlet to fit the winch to a Defender it seems : I have found a very bad copy of this but would love to have a better one ! Also, the correct owners handbook / parts list for this year's H14W is very welcome. Thank You !!

UK Raid is planned to be a social call to various people. Brexit killed buying much stuff....
-
I know..... But still Secretly planning a sort of UK Raid for late this year....
-
Seriously like it..

I totally love that engine crane ! Really, really nice : did you make it yourself ?
-
This legally has a 7,5 tonne trainweight : In certain configurations you can go up to 9 tonnes. Not sure these days of the UK though..

It's called bad administration.... Exportdocuments for cars should - at least before Brexit - include the VIN # and this is linked to ICARUS - the EU car system. Export declatation usu. means vehicle flagged as exported. Inside the EU it didn't work (there is no "export declaration" inside the EU) but some national "DVLA" databases were linked and getting a FR plate for a Dutch car usu. means 5 days later the car is flagged as exported in NL. But as we all know, things do not always go as they should.

Series 3 Landy V8 LPG oder Electric conversion
Arjan replied to Campar's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
Welcome to the MadHouse. We love pictures of Series... Disc brake conversion : Zeus supplies a bolt on kit for both front and rear axle. Fit & forget. (Don't forget to get it TüV geprüfd) LPG. As the other said. Doable but LPG is less and less easy to get in many countries. We have converted several Series in the past but modern systems are not cheap.. (Don't forget to get it TüV geprüfd) Electric conversion : can't say anything about it. -
300 Tdi Discovery Engine - hidden stud Part # request
Arjan replied to Arjan's topic in Requests for Part Numbers
Thanks Western. This is the one I took out. Part of it is missing and I guess originally it was about 70 mm long. Think I solve this by modifying an M8 bolt. -
300 Tdi Discovery Engine - hidden stud Part # request
Arjan replied to Arjan's topic in Requests for Part Numbers
This is, if I see it correctly, the timing case. I'm looking for the waterpump housing stud. I really start to believe LR has forgotten about it in the parts book / on line thingies.... -
300 Tdi Discovery Engine - hidden stud Part # request
Arjan replied to Arjan's topic in Requests for Part Numbers
That is the correct stud - thank you. It keeps the waterpump housing flat against the engineblock. It seems it is "forgotten" in the partsbook...... -
300 Tdi Discovery Engine - hidden stud Part # request
Arjan replied to Arjan's topic in Requests for Part Numbers
Nobody ? -
Replacing the "P-Gasget" between engineblock and the aluminium waterpump housing I found a broken stud : Not the central one that keeps the tensioner on : The one hidden behind this one that keeps the aluminum "frame" against the engine block. As you can see, it sheared off so need to replace it. Thank you.

EV to drive are boring but mostly smooth and quiet to use. Where I live - rural sort of covers it - makes charging them at home a challenge. Don't get me started on HBV, tractors etc. that all will have to be electric. Present technology is just not there any time soon. People who make these laws and all that have the money and too much distance to the real world to understand the problems most of us have to simply pay the bills. Retro-fit a Series LR to EV makes no financial sense and here the legal problems are huge. I'll keep the old diesels and petrol unti I die. I'll get me coat.

Chassis swap, what would you do differently?
Arjan replied to muddy's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Chassis swop is the the moment for all that sort of small things that wait to be done and together add up... wiring, brake & fuel pipes, clips, bushed and all that are just begging to be done.. We really would love to see pictures ! Good luck !!
