  1. Yes.. Return to the original set up. If set up properly it works very, very well.
  2. You might as well remove the battery tray completely. Makes for more room. Nice Project !!
  3. Welcome and good to see a Series being rebuild !! One can take it as far as money, time & energy allows.. When we do a chassis swop for ourselves, we use a galvanized chassis and bulkhead. So much easier to do when it is all off.. I am know for overdoing the electrics - and for being nowhere near original - but yes, well protected wiring loom in the RH chassis rails with an additional garden hose that has extra wires are very easy to put in when bare and always useful.. Relays will help for better light, longer live switches etc. Good luck !!
  4. Bonjour All, I'm in the middle of replacing the gearbox & 2.5 N/A diesel in the Series Hybrid for a rebuild box and a 200 Tdi ex Discovery. As I know this is covered before I was wondering IF you'd all be interested in me doing some writing about this ? After all, it has been covered before.. And I don't want to bore you guys.
  5. Think you were having a great time ! ... and lucky...
  6. Having done more than 700,000 miles on LGP powered RRC I think I can be called an experienced user.. Like the other said, if the engine and systems are fitted well and maintenance is done it works very, very well. We had a 3.9 with carbs - last RR had 480 ltrs. of LPG and no petrol tank. Served me very, very well. But, and this it the big BUT, the engine needs to be in 100 % working order, properly set up and well serviced.
  7. Could be a blocked fuel line. Had that coming back from the Alps. Blow them though and have a look.
  8. Can't comment on UK as I live on the other side... We have just finished the build of an ABRI for the horses (13x5.5x3,5 mtrs.) and the building permit took 36 hours to arrive. For the workshop (9x11x4 mtrs.) we want to include a 4 poster ramp. Having LR's many times on them I know that 4 mtrs. is the minimum. Pits don't work for me - apart from all the fumes, groundwater etc. Make the building as big & high as you can afford - Workshops are never too big.. Bon Courage !
  9. If you take the LHD version it will fit rear facing.. However - a snorkel could be a consideration..
  10. Wise words from the man ! We use marine grade multi plugs for the connectors.
  11. The Ibex used to have a LR VIN No. and a few are around on that. Did a Carnet for one some time ago and that was on a 110 VIN no and looking outside my office it most def. wasn't... These days they have their own VIN and I was talking to them about this a few months ago and as they don't have a French approval they'd either need to be IVA'd here -more than serious money - or a European approval. Also costly. Oh well..
  12. Basically, only you can decide what works for you. Tdi, both 200 or 300, are fine to power a Ninety / 90. Lowering is something I just don't understand 2.8 conversion of a Tdi block is not really something I'd do. Spoke to several people, drove several "original 2.8's" and the gain compared to a well set up 300 Tdi does not convince me to pay the extra 1,800 or so ukp. I miss my 3.5 Mazda - but I think I'll keep the Tdi's and get Mr. Turner to rebuild me a few in the (too near) future But in the end, it all comes down to your needs.. Good Luck with the process !
  13. Bon Soir ! Yes - the heater came from Canada. I was fortunate enough to have a very, very kind forum member at LRA (Remember that..) who hand carried it to the UK and eventually it came to France. You can order one on line but the shipping is quite a bit of money. To me, there is no such thing as a "to big" heater as we do Winter Raids to the Nord Kapp and in Lapland we have minus 44 C from time to time and the Mazda's & Tdi's so far have been fine. Having the Webasto engine heater makes we can both pre-heat the engine and the interior.
  14. Why not get yourself a second set of rims that will take your tyres of choice... We do.
  15. That's a nice picture !!!! Can you tell more about the 110 please ?
  16. He's the MAN !!!!!! Yes - I used his idea & can't thank him enough !!! What I did though was using the pedal box to fit the heater into. Means serious cutting of bulkhead but it also makes a lot of room free in the engine bay... The blowers move a lot of air - in fact, they caused a "whistle" in the beginning because of some weird turbulence..
  17. You'll be pleased to hear this works on either side.... The red tube is not used for the heater - that is hidden inside the dash ass. and apart from bringing much more air to the windscreen I also created side demisters. Hidden inside the grab handles on either side. Those blowers are moving a serious amount of air.. And draw serious amounts of Amps, too... I never have the blower on full... I people really want, I can try and do a write up of the build of this thing as it is not really standard. Started as a RHD Td5 HCPU and was collected in Ireland and is now a LHD 300 Tdi Hard Top in France...
  18. I just "found" this tread - this is what I did for heating. A seriously enlarged opening for the heater is needed New "box" made As you can see - a nice fit in the passenger footwell. Generates enough heat for the 110 Hard Top to be very, very warm in the Winter and taking it out in - 28 C last year showed the thing works. I have a Webasto engine/ coolant pre-heater that awaits fitting. The secondary battery powers it all and keeps the interior nice and warm at all times. Obviously not a solution for everybody as it involves serious mods (as in : cutting ) to the bulkhead.
  19. What he said. Adding a 3rd battery will just add problems if that leisure battery is kaput.. Get a good new one to replace the leisure one, run the fridge as much with engine running if possible. We see most problems with the clients' vehicles with their electrics, esp. split charge systems. Keep it simple & have fun.
  20. This Summer on Mont Cenis I saw one that was even better... The front Recovery Truck is Towing the second Recovery Truck - and that one has a broken down car on the trailer on the deck....
  21. Job well done. You could consider getting a rain water tank ? free water is always useful... I'm about to move 30 staires of firewood to get us ready for Winter..
