  1. Lost the servo assistance on my 90. Had a look at the vac pump and there was nothing going on so swapped it for a new one. The old vac pump appears to be broken as the piston is easy to push in and out across the range. I guess either the seals or valves bust perhaps. Took it for a quick spin down the lane with the new pump fitted and I have some servo assistance but not enough in my opinion. Standing on the brakes it will only just lock up on a damp road (insa special tracks so not the grippiest tires on wet tarmac). I am wondering if the servo is knackered also... but if I test it it seems fine as I can feel the pedal sink an inch or so when I start the engine up. What do people think, is the new vac pump not 100% or is the servo on the way out. Thanks Ian
  2. thread resurrection.. Anyone know the land rover part numbers for the 200tdi pipes as I want to do the same. Have found two different numbers for the upper and lower pipes. Thanks Ian
  3. Thanks. Dont have a highly tuned engine so I can sleep tonight.
  4. Does anyone know or ever worked out if a raised air intake reduces engine performance at all? just wondering thanks ian
  5. Like the idea of this as I dont like the LT77 for the reasons above. So if you use a R380 stumpy the propshafts are OK and dont need changing? What about other stuff like the gearbox tunnel? How many other bits will need swapping over. Ian
  6. Thanks. Think I am sorted of the rest of the loom. Will reuse the link loom. Think I will end up with a new main harness also as it's had a few "events" causing smoke to escape in the recent past. Continual program of improvement. Ian
  7. Ahh, thanks Western. Strange place for it to pop out the loom though? I had dismissed it as for the fuel tank as looking at the loom it pops out between the left hand and right hand corners, kind of part way along the rear cross member. Perhaps in roughly the right position for a 110 but not a 90. Guess worst case I can extend the wires back to the fuel tank sender. Ian
  8. Hi Just bought a new chassis loom as my wiring loom is a mess. There are four wires in it that I cant find on the wiring diagram and wondered if someone could tell me what they are. There is a single wire - solid purple And then there are three wires in a plug, ones Green / Black, ones white and the last looks like its white with a black trace or perhaps slate grey. Any help appreciated. I want to make sure I know what the wires are and i cant find any reference to them but they must be for something. Ian
  9. Thanks for the reply. Doesnt seem to do anything for sure so maybe a previous owner fitted something and i cant find anything on a wiring diagram. I may have to choose to ignore it because its driving me mad...
  10. Its driving me nuts, whats this switch on my 1985 90? It doesn't seem to do anything that I can tell. I might be being daft but I cant see a switch on a wiring diagram that has got a brown wire and a green wire hooked up to it. I did wonder if if was a previous owner addition but it doesnt look to be a bodge install. The switch is located on the steering column shroud. Can anyone put me out of my misery please. Thanks Ian
  11. Just wanted to update and to say thanks to all who answered. Gone back to it tonight and it looks like a lighter coat has done the trick, thanks all. Hoping for some decent weather this weekend to get the topcoat on. Fingers crossed.
  12. eightpot is right, the etch is reacting where it's coming into contact with old topcoat. Will try sanding back and taking it easy next time around. Not painted a car before so this is all new. Want to make a half decent job of it. Thanks to all for answering.
  13. thanks for the quick answer. Will see if i can pick up a rattle can of clearcoat tomorrow.
  14. Hi Just getting ready to repaint my defender. Bonnet rubbed down and painted in the new colour - all good. Body is pretty much repaired and prepped with one small problem. In a couple of areas of ended up rubbing down to bare ally. Sprayed etch prime onto these areas and getting a reaction to the etch prime. Whats the fix? Thanks in anticipation. Need to get her painted and put back together. Ian
  15. Hi all Can I ask how the front panel is joined? Is it spot welded, riveted or bolted along the side of the inner wing. I have mangled my wing and i am thinking about just swapping the outer skin and front panel but cant see how the front panel attaches by the radiator panel.
  16. So I got all the bits from here and there and I decided to get a newer clutch pedal also, the 300tdi one with the different spring to make the pedal a bit easier. Just put that pedal assembly on last night and set it up so the clutch pedal is the right height from the floor. Took it for a quick spin to see what the pedal was like, interested to know how much lighter it felt regardless of the slipping clutch. Clutch not slipping, drove it up and down hills for an hour and still not slipping. What is going on, I didn't think there was any adjustment on the clutch from the posts I searched. Confused.
  17. Thanks Nigel. Bits just arrived today as you promised. Lovely looking stuff, shame to hide it inside the motor May just sit and look at the release bearing for a day or two... First class service!
  18. just done a quick measure and its 910mm x 1260mm x 220mm. Hope that helps.
  19. thank you Paul. Will give it a go. plenty of time required to get it clean and dry like you say.
  20. What's the best fix for leaking T slot seals? Gasket or inject with rtv? Thanks Ian
