  1. Jimmy I have run my 110 200tdi for two years with no fan at all ( or cat box) and it has never once got hot, the temp gauge sits happily at 88/90 degrees all day! I was planning to fit a kenlowe and just never got round to it
  2. Why not do both? Paint and then a dob of grease as well.
  3. Well I think it looks fantastic, gear stick "Suzuki design theme"? and all! I would have one in a snap (if I could afford one) enjoy! And if you are looking for a seller in about 10 years time give me a call!
  4. My hand brake had exactly the same problem. The outer plastic cover on the hand brake cable was damaged so it had corroded inside, I replaced with a Britpart and it was dead easy to change
  5. Yep I also run a 200 tdi without the viscous fan, I planned to fit a kenlowe but never got around to it, I have never had a problem with overheating even in the hot weather we had last year, I had just fitted a new radiator which I suspect would have helped with the cooling though
  6. My first advice would be not to fall in love with a particular vehicle and to shop around until you find one that does not need work doing, believe me I am in the middle of a project that involved me buying with my heart and not my head! Have a good look at the entire chassis, the floor area under the mats, seatbox, the under sides of the front doors as these are all areas of concern. A garage will be charging you something in the region of £25 per hour to do the repairs, don't forget that it may be necessary to remove the wind screen, not in itself a big job but a bit of a faff, then there is the painting on top. I wouldn't like to give you a price without seeing the vehicle but the cost can very easily run into hundreds of pounds, all of which of course will be + VAT! That aside if everything else is sweet on the Landy and it ticks all the other boxes then don't let it put you off too much
  7. You know what, I have been thinking about doing the same thing to my 110 Defender, I always seem to be parking up in a position that means the back door won't stay open whn I am loading or unloading, at the moment I use a piece of wood which is a bit naff, let me know how you get on. I would be interested in a strut if you have one spare Regards, Mark
  8. I picked up a new one on ebay for around the £100 mark which included Vat IIRC. I am not sure how they compare for quality but mine has been fine. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LANDROVER-DISCOVERY-...=item4629252613 A quick look has turned this one up. Anybody else have any thoughts on the quality of these radiators?
  9. Noooo!!! Now I know why I was asked to look into it, the last guy had his head in the sand, sounds like a good idea right now!!! Stuff it I'm off for a drink!!!!
  10. Hi Tony, thank you, my apologies for being for being tactless. sometimes I have a habit of being too direct when looking for answers. As a side note I am thinking of maybe trying to get my boss to invest in a set of portable weighing scales so that we can carry out checks on suspect vehicles.
  11. Ahhh I see its a them and us! I am sorry if I have stepped on any toes here. My experience of forums was that it was quite normal and acceptable to link from one site to another. I take it you would happily follow a link that was not to a 'rival site'? I feel that you are attacking / taking it out on me somewhat. Surely forums are here for people from all walks of life regardless of how often or how many times we post. I mean isn't the whole point here that we share a common interest of all being L/Rover enthusiasts? As for the DoT, well as I said I wanted to speak to those at the coalface who were most likely to know the crack. And that will be seven posts now thank you very much
  12. Hi, the mods are loading ramps, modified bulkheads and winches, all adding to the weight but not to the load carrying capacity, so I guess I will need to weigh the trailers now and deduct the extra weight from the trailer maximum load. Thanks, Mark
  13. Thanks for all the replies it has given me a few ideas. As for the above? Thanks I tried that, I found it to be a confusing matter. Who better to ask than the very people who may have dealt with these vehicles day in day out for years. To suggest my post is no more than spam is unhelpful and bordering on being rude to a new member IMHO
  14. Hi Guys sorry for the confusion I work for a local authority and my boss has asked me to look into ensuring that we comply with vehicle and trailer loading regulations? I thought it would simply be a case of finding the manufacturers weight of the vehicle and trailer and ensure that we do not over load them beyond what they specify. The problem appears to arise from the fact that the L/Rovers have been modified and we also carry a large amount of tools which will have to be taken into account when working out how much weight we can put into then? The same is true with the trailers as they also have been modified. Somebody has suggested that we take each vehicle and trailer in turn and have them weighed individually which will give us our base line to work from, this seems crazy to me as it involves a hell of a lot of work, and how far do I take it? Do I ensure that the tank is full and we have a driver and passenger in the vehicle at the time? Is there a common sense approach that can be used. Regards, Mark
