  1. im still around...and badder than ever

  2. Hi grant, yes all is undone and all caps are off, I will get a gear puller sometime tomorrow and attack it again although ive just had a very nasty shock with how much my new parts are: £55 a piston for rings!! £50 a cam follower! £15 a valve, and the bearings were £42 plus vat a set as were the big end bearings to!!! all the rest is costly to......Im wondering now to take liveridge 4x4 up on their offer of fitting a 300 tdi block all in for £1000, what do you all think????? Tris
  3. Hello fellas, Long time no speak, I hope all are well and are enjoying the fruits of land rover driving whilst i parade round a garage full of oily bits! Anyway im rebuilding the 200 tdi and have come a little stuck trying to get the crank out, everything is undone and the only thing left is the crank sprocket on the end outside the block, I have removed the crank pulleys and belt, main caps etc, So can anyone tell me how the the sprocket comes off and after its undone the crank should slide out a little then upwards? So far everything has gone well, Everything marked up etc with enough tipex to keep partners in business for a year, This sprocket is giving me a headache though!!!! Kindest regards Tris
  4. hello fellas, Grant very kindly put this up for me, My defender went for its mot and got really badly treated, It caused over a thousand pounds worth of damage, The chassis and engine were very good and im not just saying that, They smashed holes in the chassis and turrets with a hammer and have messed all my electrics up after they had finished the work. It passed the brake test but they failed it because he didnt like the feel of the pedal, The braking system has been rebuilt last month and tested by another garage who said it was perfect before going for its mot, The emissions were never a problem and it flew through although they tested it twice even though it passed first time! They told me they changed the oil and had problems fitting the oil filter and that when they ran it first time the oil pumped out all over the floor, Telling me they ran it dry of oil! When I took it home the engine has developed a clacking sound and is gradually getting worse, Thats why i asked grant to ask how much a rebuild kit is They have ruined my poor landy. On one more note I lost access to a computer in the summer when my wife and I seperated and I would like to say I do miss you all on here and I was really looking forward to seeing you next weekend in the peaks, I am gutted I wont be able to go as i have been looking forward to it all year. But with the engine being poorly I cant risk it, Im also out of work and cant ask my father for more money for a new engine as he just payed the money to get it fixed so i could go to the peaks, So thats why i got grant to ask about a rebuild kit. I do hope all are well Kindest regards to all tris
  5. Hello people, I dont have access to a computer just now so im using a friends tonight, Unfortunately Grant who is a new member with 15 posts has had is pride and joy stolen from a show in berkshire, His battery on his phone has just run out on me so here are the only details I have, It is an 89 registration 90 with wrap around bull bar, Spot lamps and winch, I cant remember the colour but it does have a distinctive isuzu engine, Inside was a lap top, Mobile phone bits and various tools, It was stolen around 2pm today. Grant is heart broken and asked me to let everyone know as a "Just incase" I would like to take this opportunity to ask all members to keep a close eye and fair amount of security as a lot of defenders are dropping like flies to the scum that feeds off theft, I know of many that have gone, And the feeling is they are going abroad where demand is great. Grant will be on later when he finds his way home and will post additional information. Take care all and watch your landrovers. Tris
  6. Fieldhead campsite is 01433 760386 and is run by the peak districk nationel park etc, So fires might be a no no. Upper campsite on a farm is 01433 670250. Dont know about that one. If anyone wants to see pics and a run down of the site then just google or yahoo it. Tris
  7. Many welcomes bluespanner, You will get on just fine with this lot, They have helped me loads. Tris
  8. Hello people, Just taking a wonder over here from the defender forum, Since you are the disco people could you help me with this please. My neighbour has a N reg diesel disco ( 300tdi?) It has been in a roll on the motorway so the body is knackered and crushed all together windows smashed etc, The disco has only done 102,000 miles and he says the engine is in fine fettle, I was thinking it might come in useful for spares for my defender tdi, He is asking £450 as he says it cost him that to get it recovered. Does £450 sound a bit steep for a crushed disco with okay running gear?? Please give me your opinions fellas. Kindest regards tris
  9. Thanks for all that fellas, On the propshaft front its fitted and ive just done a 20 mile test drive and I swear it drives smoother! Stereo wiring sounds easier enough so will be on that soon, (He says zzzzzap buzz!!!) I remember the first time I did a stereo in my old escort, The main beam kept coming on when I turned the stereo on Still Little bit wiser now! Cheers fellas Tris
  10. Thanks cat /fridge, Anyone know if the transfer box has got a seal in the flange bit for the prop before I swap it for the disco flange in a couple of hours? tris
  11. Right got back off me holiday today, I dont know why I bother as you feel knackered when you come back and theres loads to catch up on, The gaffa wanted to go camping Still land rover magazines kept me occupied while the regulars polished there caravans and read readers digest. Anyways back to the defender, First question is the wires out the dash have been cut so many times in the past that Im going to have to run new wires to fit a stereo, Is it just a case of a lead from the battery to the stereo and a lead from somewhere on the ignition and an earth lead?? Secondly im changing the flange on the transfer box end tomorrow to adapt a disco 2 dc prop (temporary measure as the prop was peanuts) to my tdi, Is there a gasket that will need replacing when I remove the flange like on the diff where the front seal can leak etc Cheers fellas Tris
  12. Looks like waters got into it?? Thats the colour of rust and water, Though I dont know where rust would come from on that part and oil should go milky I guess with water, Have you done any wading Thats all I can think of and maybe take the hose off to check for water getting in and also check the oil to see what colour that is, tris
  13. If the chassis mount were out for the axle wouldnt there be a problem with fitting the suspension on one side as the shock goes into the hub on the axle and so does the lower spring etc. So the wheel say drivers side would stick out furtur and the passenger wheel would be intowards the chassis etc Im not sure but just a thought. Tris
  14. Very good pictures! Im using the 100amp one on a 12000lb winch at the moment, I had the cables extended proffesionely and they vetted it and said ok, Also the auto electricians I went to fit winch's and inverters etc But now ive seen the other switch im going to order it as you can never be to safe. tris
  15. If you go on fleabay and look at the people that sell winch's they have shops and sell the switches seperate for a few quid, Dont know how to do links yet tris Just looked, Its " Recovery solutions" and its £6.
  16. you the daddy graham!!! As for selling the v8 in the topic its a shame but I understand where your coming from, I have fought to keep mine and in the end took it off the road for 12 months, Now my situation has changed im so glad I hung on to it. Anyway the ones I have seen are 3 to 4k to buy, but with the cost of fuel as mentioned above it is a buyers market. Tris
  17. Go to the car dealerships and ask for a trade in car, Take £250 with you and you will get something okay for that, I spent a lot of working time in dealerships and if you go and ask the salesman for a look at a trade in that hasnt been promised to the trade guy yet you might get lucky. We are all right, You will really regret selling your landy,Its far better to get a run around, Even if its a right banger so what just use it!! tris Graham is that all you get from lpg
  18. Thanks fellas, A little more digging around in the tech archive confirmed this too, I struggle using the search sometimes. I phoned the breakers back and he is giving me the transfer box flange with the propshaft as He hasnt posted it yet today, I was lucky to catch him, Other breakers have been intouch with prices ranging from £100 up to the last quote this morning which was £170 seems they hold there money well. He charged a tenner for the transfer box flange and as I said £50 for the DC prop Well happy. So thanks for telling me guys. Tris PS: Its 1st choice spares I used and its brilliant, Ive had 20 quotes in 30 minutes, So remember them if you need spares Because I think it could help.
  19. Hello all, I bought a disco 2 double cardon prop for £50 as a temporary measure until the real mcCoy can be fitted. Can someone tell me if the disco 2 double cardon goes on my 200tdi defender as it is?? Raceface mentioned it could need the output flange of the disco, Would that be the two or just one if I do need to swap them. The only reason im a little confused is at treeblokes On monday I fitted a td5 Double cardon prop off a 90 and it bolted straight on, So is the disco different? I do promise with hand on heart this is the last propshaft question I will ever post Tris
  20. If you get stuck im just taking some brand new heavy duty 2inch lift springs off mine, They have been on a month on my 90, They are front ones too TRis
  21. They look good graham! Im glad you went for them, I love mine and £400 for brand new wheels and 265 muds is a good price with next day delivery! Go find some mud now!!! Tris
  22. I think mine has, Keep getting really dodgy things up, It definateley mentioned virus and it wouldnt let me navigate away, Kept telling me to install a program, Then when I tried to click cancel it came up with quite a nasty message saying "If you click cancel we will download the software to protect you anyway, It was insistant I down loaded it. It must have been a coincidence it happened when clicking that link then? I dont know anything about computers at all Its my wifes department. I turned the laptop off without shutting down to get away from the message All seems to be well, The wife says all is okay, Sorry if I said it was the link it just did it when I clicked on it, As my mom would say "its something in the air waves" On another note to protect all us 4x4.com users, My wife says if you have a post card saying its from a friend by email then dont open it because its a virus. Hope im not O/T Regards tris
  23. Dave and bog monster can you pm me your videos If you think they will help when I do mine this weekend? Tris
  24. I just clicked on that link and It came up in red writing and said warning you have triggered a firewall virus or something or other. Be careful people dont click on that link as its not safe, Tris
