  1. Could be your wheel bearings being worn on one side. Mine were noisy on the left side. Or a dry sound close
  2. 3. My original lasted a while until the dreaded winter arrived and the slow march of hello  crept in. But they are good. :D :P
  4. If you have a costco near by and your a member or someone you know is. They have a good size battery ideal suited for carawagons and tractors Larger the crank turn over the better.
  5. Well I hope this will be lesser of two evils. Its a bit concerning on occasions when travel about 30+ only to have the feeling your on ice with a light steering. My local mechanic can have the pleasure of fixing this problem An no doubt my piggy bank money box
  6. Hello Landy's. Just recently getting a problem from steering. Feels like going on marbles or ice in other words a very light steering. Land Rover 1988 110 3.5v8 Gemmar ps original, Pump only 2 years old. Is this fixable or replacing job. Am I looking a very worried piggy bank.
  7. First off welcome. 1. For the V8 type check your two SU Carbs pots for oil make sure they are not empty. Because running on LPG can empty the dampers chambers. Hence the jets being worn. 2. Useful tip for V8 on warm up is to feel the heat coming through the window vents. When they warm up, this will be okay to transfer to LPG. Your ideal Idle revs should about 800+ for the LPG to be cosy. 3.When was it last serviced both LPG and Petrol side. 4. Should try and avoid starting on LPG as the gas has not had chance to warm from the water system. Hence the feel of the vent as a indicator. 5. How are the LPG unit setup. Tank sideway or forward looking on the rear bench seat. Is the regulator flat or side on to the front wing. Also the mixers a single to the air inlets or one on each side of the carbs. It is important for LPG that the Petrol usage in good condition first as this lubes the carbs. As when you switch over P-N-G you should feel a struggle in Neutral twice as each carb emptying then the flicking to Gas manually will be instant. Make sure when not using for more than few hours return to Petrol.
  8. There is still some electro silver paint that can cure most breaks in the element. but they do look so ugly once applied. As for brake lights. See if you can scrape back the metal surface to gain a better contact. then apply WD40. Pending on the condition maybe best investing in a new set of units.
  9. I just use draft extruder on a role from focus. Seems to work well and mould in those on shapes around the doors.
  10. You could try a pad heater 12v rating. I am using on occasions oil sump heater which is glued to and heats my oil up in 2 hrs. This could equally heat the tank via a battery while driving.
  11. Well as promised an update on the oil sump heater pad. After 5 - 6 hours being on as being recommended for full heat. Poor . It will make the oil hot, but this does not transfer well to the engine block on 3.5v8. So really a expensive folly for me. Does allow the choke time usage to drop though but as a engine warmer by oil alone no. While browsing around though. I came across an article in another forum rangie.com. they mention the plus and minus of each type of pre heater. The one struck me as odd was a Catalytic Heater which was could be used on 90/110 for coolant storage heat. Has anyone here about this type mention. The problem I have most other pre heaters are too expensive or unable to fit within my lpg/heater matrix setup.
  12. Well update on my oil sump heater on a 3.5 v8. in 2 hours the oil is warm but the time to crank the engine is quicker on choke to fully off choke. Next to try is the 5-6 hours for full heated oil.
  13. I have just fitted a Oil Sump Heater Pad on my 3.5V8 today. So I will be testing this tomorrow. According to the blurb this will heat the oil and the engine block within 2 hours. So fingers crossed. While testing and ensuring bonding it goes very hot quickly. My main problem with the other varieties of engine block heater is space and to much altering of previously cut hoses for my LPG.
  14. On another swing on the heating the engine block. There is a company in america who sell a product called PowerBlankets. Which by placing over the engine bay heat up after a short period of time. Is there or was there a company over here in blighty have a similar setup for car engine bay. I have just making inquiries for the sump heater at the moment from the manufacturer. They mentioned different sizes on there website blurb.
  15. In short answer for the heater is no but with a caveat. You will find in the archive section on how to check and readjust the cables to gain maximum heat. To alternatives to kenworth engine heater or the internal espacher route. I on the other hand have a v8 which heats up quicker than the diesel models.
  16. I had an odd sound from my passenger side rear wheel area. Turned out to be bearings. on of the blighters had worn out and gave grawnching noise like as if the the brake pads had dislodged.
  17. Decided to get the annoying scraping clunking sound repaired. Had enough of the sound from the rear passenger side and raided the money box. What a list. 1. Anti role bar joints failed. 2. Rear drum brake piston replaced 3. Rear wheel Bearings failed After prising open the money box of despair £220 to exact. When I go to leave and start my pride and joy The manifold gasket to the downpipe gives up the ghost To a lovely sound of the v8. Now I am on the floor what next!!!! So lucky enough the garage shop chap was good enough to repair that for nothing. More in in not seeing me again I guess What gets me darn exhaust downpipe consistently blowing the gasket. Well now back and running up to now what that noise argh who cares
  18. I occasionally have problems with my bonnet release. But I now use a old biro to jam between the bonnet and latch area and then use the release catch.
  19. Pending on age and general use the seam around the tank maybe knackered. Or if it the old type the seal could be rust worn. The only safe way is to pressure test with the tank empty with air.
  20. Passed no quibbles Wahoo. Looking for a place near ashton-u-lyne that does chassis cleanup.
  21. I thought it may have been the lpg but this seems to smell when I have left the wagon for a few days. The only other way describing the smell is very similar to the brand new belts for the power steering and alternator odd rubber. As for ATF which seems to like dripping definate not that smell.
  22. Hello All. I seem to have an odd stench from the engine bay. This only happens when I have left the v8 for few days. Smells like a pile of slugs stuck boiling away. Or rubber rotting or festering. No problem with the engine just that smell. Any clues Also on another note the gearbox lt85 drain plug seems to have sprung a leak i have tighten the darn thing but still drips. I had a look for part number but couldn't find one in the latest part book.
  23. If the engine is running high, this maybe to do with petrol mix screws vibrating loose on each su carb. Some reason while using the lpg for a spate of time pushes up the revs by 200 odd on mine. Also never try to start on lpg the old girl become crabby for ten minutes. Mine is a open system so run the engine up warm on petrol then drain those lovely su's till a struggle then flick the switch to gas.
  24. There is a nut remover sockets design available. Might be best to ask at your local Auto shops. I am also sure the was a device that tightens around the nut where this will snap the nut.
