  1. How about a front recovery point off a Mil series Landrover, just bolt to the floor using 4 M8 or M10 raw-bolts. Like the one below (sorry it’s the best picture I can find)
  2. Ian You just need to get it dirty now There again, now your bit more local we will have to see if we can get your 90 on its side down the canal
  3. Thanks guys, will be having a bit more practice with Tig and see how it goes. Know exactly what you mean about twisting, it’s always amassed me how much a weld can pull. Going to get quite a bit of practice and there should be plenty of scrap at the end of it, it’s been a while since I have bent any tube. Still not decided if the cage for the Mog will be made out of Tube or box yet. In the old days everyone seamed to just use 2” Blue Band tube for their cages and if you wanted one a bit stronger you just upgraded to Red Band, what’s the norm (if there is one) for a challenge motor? I think the ARC green book still specifies Blue Band but I can’t find my copy I’ll have to look at their website. Only got No7's left now and they a quite a bit worn, think I need to pay a visit to BOC
  4. Got to fabricate a couple of roll cages in the near future, one for a 90 that we are going to have a go at some challenge events with and a 404 Unimog that are playing around with. Long time ago I gas welded everything, mainly seam welding Mk 2 Escort & Mantra body shells for the rally boys but also roll cage mounts, live axles etc. Then I discovered Mig and never looked back. Now I only ever use the gas bottles for removing stubborn bolts and the occasional mad gas axe moments. To cut a long story short the bloke that owns the farm where our unit is has given me full access to a full blown Tig set (AC / DC and lots of knobs) as he has never used it. Had a bit of a play and found it gives a real nice neat weld with very little heat transfer compared with gas. What’s the main advantage with Tig over Mig other than neatness? Its seams to take me longer with Tig but I presume I will get quicker with practise. On another note, I have never fabricated a cage from scratch. When you weld the various joints do you usually do a full root, fill and cap joint or just blast round? Sorry if this post has turned into a war and peace epic.
  5. Good god never seen that, seen striped teeth with a radical cam and soild lifters, are all the push rods straight?
  6. Yep know exactly how you feel, fitted a DTA system to an Aston straight 6 with rover coils, not only a numb hand but a lump on my head where it hit the bonnet
  7. There isn't a gasket on the rear diff cover it’s just glued on. Take care when removing it as it bends quite easily. I would check the drain plug and breather first though.
  8. Thanks Steve enough said.
  9. Very nice work, espically like the crow bar resting on top of the V8. Noticed the HT coils, what are they like in the wet?
  10. Les I certainly didn’t mean my post to be inflammatory and apologise if it reads that way. The only thing I find strange is you seaming to be taking sides in an argument that really shouldn’t be in an open forum in the first place. However, these things do happen from time to time and it’s the forums moderators that need to control the situation with an unbiased approach, much the same as any other policing. I may have got the whole thing out of proportion and as I stated easier I have only heard good things about you and this is reflected in the aura of the rest of the forum, this is why this particular thread sticks out. Scott PS Thank you for the welcomes
  11. Have seen one fitted to a 1989 90, Landrover do a kit that involves very little modification to the interior (bulk of the work is a new bigger all plastic heater / evaporator). However it is designed for a V8. I am currently rebuilding a 200 TDI 110 with this bigger heater / evaporator and the main problem is stopping the turbo from melting it. The kits are very rare and would be very expensive to buy from Landrover and I am not sure if they are still available but I’ll sort the part numbers out for you over the weekend.
  12. Hi I have been lurking on this forum for a while now and to be honest I am very impressed with its contents and technical expertise. However the recent posts concerning Mr Wuffles and Steve G seem to taint some what, not the posts but the actions and comments made by the moderator. Now my understanding of a moderator is someone that doesn’t take sides and protects the integrity of forum, please correct me if I am wrong with this view. Now I don’t know Mr Henson but have only ever heard good comments about him, this is why I cannot understand the one sided actions by him especially the £300 pound clip on the ear comment even if it is covered with a grin. I do realise that posts sometimes get a bit out of hand and need to be locked / controlled but it needs to be done in an unbiased way. Anyway keep up the good work and I apologise in advance for any offence that my comments make, but please be rest assured offence is not my intension. I look forward to your comments good, bad or indifferent. Grumpy
  13. Had a good holiday Ian Whats an invasion
