  1. I have been trying to determine why the main battery on my Disco 2 TD5 is drained in less than a week when the vehicle is not used. I have a drain of about .6 amps. I removed and replaced fuses in the engine bay and when I removed the fuse no 8 the drain dropped to .005 amps. The fuse symbol on the fuse box is of a trailer. I assume this is the circuite for detecting when a trailer is conencted and activating the dash indicator light when useing the indicators. I do have a tow bar fitted so it is used and working correctly. What exactly does this circuit do, I also hear a Beep from the rear alarm sounder when putting the fuse back. Any ideas?
  2. Could the Injectors have been transposed or replaced during your engine swop. Remember injector codes are registerd in the ECU and are unique to each injector and location on the engine.
  3. Hi I will check glow plugs and MAF. I have also suddenly developed a dead battery overnight so I am going to replace that first before playing with anything else - Could be a voltage problem.
  4. I have started experiencing the following symptom with my td5 Disco Auto. 1 When starting in the morning it fires but does not idle and immediately dies. It requires a few tries which is very unusual With a bit of accelerator it will start and runs as normal after this. There is no smoke when starting. 2 Very bad lag when pulling off 4-5 seconds of low revs - I can see zero turbo pressure on the nanocom Tp reading. As soon as the turbo starts boosting it goes fine. Any ideas where to start looking, I get no error codes from the Engine ECU.
  5. I had a similar problem and non dealer did complete drain an power flush of the system - this is a function available with diagnostics systems for the disco. I have not had the same problem appear for 3 years.
  6. Not good news as this could happen fairly easily and you cant pick it up easily - unless there is more smoke out of the exhaust?
  7. After inspection by a LR dealer the following came to light on a Diso TD5 engine. The number 1 Cylinder (One closest to frontof vehicle ?) has failed. The edges and center are badley corroded and it has seemingly blown through at one side. LR dealer say this is due to overfueling on this cylinder. The other 4 Cylinders appear to be OK visually that is. Is this a plausable explanation.
  8. i have never towed that much max about 1200Kg. Tows very well and has enough power for the job except on steep hills when you really do slow down and reving higher in a lower gear actually takes you out of the TD5 power band
  9. Hi Can anyone PM me or post a list of the must have spares for overlanding with a TD5 Discovery with Air suspension. I would like to know part Nos for all of the parts if possible and any extra parts to carry - eg plugs for air hoses for the suspension Things like Turbo Hoses Cooling hoses ..... Ths vehicle is well maintained but things to fail after the 140 000km mark.
  10. Thanks for the replies - It has now been sorted and all is well
  11. I have found the manifold on my Disco TD5 is warped and the end studs are snapped or pulled out. I have contact a repair center who will do the work of ensuring it is fixed and true agin. My only question is, do you replace only the affected studs or all of them as a matter of course?
  12. I posted this in the Discovery forum area and hd no response. Maybe this area is abetter location for it. I have a Nanocom and would like to load a better fuel map for my Disco 2 TD5. I would like to load an improved fuel map to see if it is worth the effort on my vehicle. I someone contact off list or PM me some maps with a description of what they are supposed to do as far as performance improvements are concerned I would appreciate it. I suspect mine may already be mapped but need some maps to compare. I would like to be able to load a few different maps and see which is better from an economy point of view etc.

  14. Thanks I have downloaded the aditional documents from their site now and will use them
  15. Had my regular workshop have listen and they say it is the center box on the exhaust system that may be blocked and causing the now loud noise on acceleration. They have said a straight trough pipe can be fitted with little increase in noise. Does the diagnosis make sense.
  16. I have Nanocom and it is working well for diagnosing problems. However the manual is very limited as regards the application of the Nanocom. What i need is what the practical steps are to say program as key Fob or Calibrate an Air suspension system. Is there a location where all the workshop procedures related to correcting error codes are document for use with these type of electronic tools. I do have Rave and it contains workshop procedures but lack some of the practical aspects of maintaining the electronic managed side of a TD5 Any suggestions of where to look will be appreciated
  17. Thanks for the replies so far i will get the torque converter checked out,
  18. it seems to be mechanical - but it is difficult to diaganose as you cannot hear it when stationary. The vehicle has done 140000 Km. I have had a reduction in the effectiveness of the Aircon can they be related as the aircon becomes useless when the vehicle is hot and outsids temps are over 30 degrees. In the last two weeks I have had the Aircon pully come of and damage fan and radiator which have both been replaced.
  19. I will check these - would the noise increse with engine revs/load? Shoild I be able to hear the noise all the time if these are the problem.
  20. I have noticed a steadily increasing noise from the Disco as I drive it. It started as a slight whistle when accelerating and has now become a louder almost screech as you accelerate and more load is placed on the drive train. It is loader as the Auto box changes down gears and then almost disappears when final lock up occurs It dos not seem to be on the outlet manifold and does not appear when revving the engine at standstill, this may be because there is no load. The mechanic has checked all the turbo pipes and indicates they are OK. What should I check first – as I suspect it may be somewhere in the drive train? Vehicle is Disco 2, TD5, AC,Ace
  21. Dont just refill as it will leak again. Find someone in CT that can redoo the seals and refill the jack with the correct fluid. It can be done and is a lot cheaper than a new jack in SA
  22. Thanks - That will probably explain the problem.
  23. Could be but both keys are a problem and they both worked befor the fuse box changed???
  24. Not mine but a question regarding the replacement of the Fuse box on the drivers side under the dash. The vehicle is a 03 TD5 with AC, SLS and ACE. The old fuse box was damaged due to water ingress from the windshield. The fuse box was repalced with a used one from a 04 Disco and has the same part number. After the replacement the vehicle is working but cannot be un/locked with the Key Remote amd can only be un/locked with the key itself. Any ideas anyone.
  25. How many Kms have you done with the vehicle since the change, it is very interesting and i assume that all the other plumbing in the engine compartment remained the same. may I enquire how much it cost for the work.?
