  1. Fair enough, thanks for the advice guys. It definitely sounds like one of them's shafted then? Master (TRW LUCAS) and slave (unspecified), plus the pushrod and 4 of the dreaded clips (I've done some reading on these!) only come to about £55, so not bad at all. I will get this b***h back on the road!
  2. Hi all, My Defender has been laid up for the last 4 months, pending the carbs being rebuilt. Now that's done, I've started her up, and gone to pull away, and the clutch goes right to the floor . It was fine a month ago, because I had to get her towed to my new house. On checking the fluid reservoir, it was completely empty except for a thick black sludge at the bottom (which I cleaned out). Today, I went to bleed the clutch, and with the help of a friend I've put an entire liter of fluid through the system. It started coming out a hideous grey/black colour, and after the first 500ml, started to run the right colour. However, things are just the same as before, and I can't select any gears! There's no fluid in my footwell, so not sure if its the master cylinder, and the bell-housing drain plug is out, and none is flowing through the hole. The pipes are fine and not leaking. WTF is it going?? And do you think it sounds like a new master cylinder (yes please, nice easy job) or slave cylinder (booo, crappy job!) Oh, and which slave cylinder would I require? I'm leaning towards FTC5071 as it's apparently the correct one for a V8 with LT77 or LT85 (mine is the 85). I'm fairly sure I currently have the FTC5072 fitted, as the vehicle used to be a 4-cyl with an LT77, and I think I swapped them straight over - might explain why the clutch was always so heavy! Would I need a new pushrod? I really want to use the Landy for a festival at the beginning of next month, if only because I'd actually like to be able to leave the car park! Cheers all.
  3. Excellent, managed to bogart a disposable balloon filler bottle from a lay-by I'd seen recently, and is says tested up to 22Bar so that's what I'll use! Cheers fellas.
  4. White90 - very helpful links, thanks. Dollythelw - I know where there is one of those, but I'd discounted it because it was so light! I didn't think it would safely store 150psi.
  5. Having just got me a V-pulleyed air-con pump to fit to the V8, I'm now beginning to think about fittings etc. My main problem is: What size tank to use? To start with it'll only be used to inflate tyres, but I eventually want to run a rattle-gun etc from it too. It will get light use as I'm no ladoga entrant . I realise it'll have to be regulated to 6.5 bar for tools, but I plan to store at about 10 bar, so what sort of size tank am I looking at to give me a decent few seconds burst on a rattle gun before it runs out of puff? It wants to be as small as possible and fit under the bonnet - would half a gallon be enough? Cheers guys Tom.
  6. Evening fellows. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to obtain the above item, WITHOUT getting bent over for it? So far prices range from £65 + p+p, to £40 + p+p. Basically I'm not paying such a ****** ridiculous price for 2 bits of tin, a bit of rubber and a moving shaft!! Could a series one be 'persuaded' to fit? They're a lot cheaper (but still overpriced!) Cheers Tom.
  7. I've just started Uni in Portsmouth but have as yet been unable to find any evidence of any off-road scene. Tonight on my way to the pub (how predictable for a student!) I spotted this yellow 90. Truck cabbed with a canvas back, Simex's (or copies - too drunk to know/care) Several inches of lift, big Warn winch on the front, and 2 stickers sporting the "LR4x4.com" wording. (sorry the picture is carp, but it was dark and I was Mildly miffed!) If it is you, I'd be interested to know, if only to pick your brains about where I can find a local club / do a couple of play-days. Cheers Tom.
  8. That looks like a right bummer! Just tell him... imagine how much compensation he could get for all that very important, job-dependant work he had on the laptop that broke. He'll need compensation for that! Also they need to pay up for a tank of derv, and a spray-job for the whole truck to deal with the panels that had the paint damaged by the derv and other noxious substances coming from it. Screw 'em for all their worth, and he may end up having effectively free parking forever!
  9. I remember when I was first looking at the longer springs I wanted the RRC HD's at the front because the spring rates were almost identical (defender fronts=175, RRC HD's=177), but I wanted harder ones at the back to stop the sagging on road and give a ride more similar to "standard" LR. I found some Disco HD springs, which were the same length as the RR ones, but had a rate of 215, which is much closer to the defender rear rate of 225. Unfortunately I can't find them anywhere now and after a lot of research I'd decided they were the perfect setup...
