  1. i am experiencing what seems to be the same noise. i changed the manifold gasket not long ago due to it leaking however the noise started a few weeks after fitting this gasket. the noise is easier to distinguish from inside the cab however then i am unable to identify where it comes from. i have checked the flow of diesel coming out of the filter housing as said in thsi thread this seems fine however when probing the lift pump it sounded quite noisy... i have just removed the vacuum pump (very awkward) to find the plunger is free to move and unsprung, as stated in thsi thread this means its bust? shoudl i be able to push it in further or is the spring too stiff to do this by hand? when removed, the spring did push it away from the block... what do i do next? buy a new one straight away or refit and replace it in due course? apologies if this is seen as obstructing the original post but it does appear to be the same problem... cheers Will
  2. Hi, on my 300 90, i removed all the 300 system bar the non cat downpipe and bought a second hand Td5 tailpipe and made my own straight through pipe to join them... I get the same miles out of a tank, driven hard everywhere now than i did taking it real easy before, if driven gently i get about 20 to 30 miles extra. Torque has noticebaly increased i can get the higher gears much sooner and it goes quicker. Sound wise, it is much louder... sounds awesome when i floor it, turns heads as you drive down the street and cannot help to drop down a gear in tunnels now. when taking it easy it soudns fairly standard however drones ever so slightly more on a motorway. BTW i am 19 so may have differing views on exhaust loudness best modification ive done though! cheers Will
  3. thanks for the response and yes i think phoning them would be a good idea and they do seem to have been around a while... could be difficult for them to determine over the phone if it has been tweaked or not though without giving away their secret! I dont travel down south too often anymore, especially not in the landy... cheers Will
  4. Hi, having searched about tweaking the fuel pump on the tdi. It appears JE Engineering offer to do it for a ALOT of money, although they claim the same tweak is fitted to military tdi's worldwide. I drive an ex RAF 300tdi civilian spec, however, it has land rover special vehicles plaques in the engine bay and on the seatbox. there are no signs of work being done by them anywhere on the vehicle. Could this mean i have this particular tweak? how could i tell? another reason i ask is because i hear stories of tdi land rovers being slow and struggling to keep 70mph on the motorway. I can cruise at 75mph and it will happily reach 80... although, it is the only tdi i have driven... also, does anyone have any experience of JE tuned Tdi's? or any other companies such as twisted? I realise it can be done as a DIY mod, but am interested to hear what these companies can offer... cheers Will
  5. i see what you mean about the add ons, it would be easier just to create homemade harnesses for each. The idea was mainly to enable the Td5 full dash to work in perfect harmony but at that cost it would be more cost effective to just buy a Td5! Thats an excellent write up on the dash instrument installation, be best to go for that then go down the lines of mud/iron goat for the main dash... cheers Will
  6. Hi, im after a part number for the wiring looms for a RoW spec 90. Bulkhead loom primarily, however, im guessing the engine and chassis loom may be needed too but maybe these would be the same as a UK Td5? If parts are available and at a reasonable price this could be an effective way of changing a UK 300tdi dash to Td5 spec and adding heated seats, electric windows etc. ... Cheers Will
  7. thanks for the replys, good thing is everyone seems to think its the bushes, which is easy replacement. My worry was that soemthing on the outrigger or axle could be bent. Shall replace both bushes and see what happens. Thanks again Will
  8. cheers, i will remove tomorrow and have a better look. what would I be looking for, I have looked for the usual perishing of the rubber when i checked before but there was none of this? Thanks again Will
  9. Now then... New to posting here but i have found many topics on here very useful, thanks. Anyway,i drive a Defender 90 300tdi '96 and my right side radius arm has pushed up against the axle mounting bracket. It seems to have happened after either going to full articulation or after hitting a furrow at high speed in a stubble field... i have been driving with it like this for a few months and have possibly noticed some unpredictable handling when pushing it abit but this may just be me imagining it or just Land Rover handling characteristics. I have loosened the bolts and pushed it back central however after a short drive it goes straight back. The left side is unaffected. Is this a problem, and if so what do you think has damaged to cause this? the radius arm is not bent and the bushes seem fine. i have added pictures, hopefully they work. cheers, Will
  10. Hello, this is my first post on this forum, however have been using the technical archives and what not for a while. Very useful, thank you. So, this is basically a request to keep an eye out for a real special land rover, or its parts, owned by a friend of mine. It was stolen a couple of nights ago from the Yorkshire area, near Doncaster and Pontefract. It was a very distinctive Land Rover which is the main reason i have posted it on this forum as i believe, even if it is broken down, the landy or its parts will be quite noticeable. It's a Black G4 challenge limited edition 90 station wagon in immaculate condition. It was on a private plate but is a 53 reg. It's the type WITHOUT the winch and roof rack etc. which is why i think it is distinctive as there were very few made... It has a front roll cage on, Boost alloys with general grabbers, A bar, rear nas step, air con, blacked out windows, side steps, steering guard, g4 decals, g4 seats and a high spec sony stereo. Also, had a load of greenlaning gear in the back (nice new axe etc.) and a tomtom. It had standard land rover alarm which was disarmed before the vehicle was moved, by, i believe, a well known method in the TD5's but, anyway, i'll refrain from posting it up... Im hoping they may be tracked down when a seller has a combination of these bits for sale... Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and any information will be much appreciated, Will
