  1. This is ours with 285/75 Federal Couragia muddies, standard suspension with defender 130 front springs.
  2. I forgot about the Railko bearing setup. Thanks for the reply David I think I will leave the inner axle seal in for now.
  3. Gday Iam in the process of rebuilding both swivels on my 1994 300tdi defender and in my copy of the RAVE cd 3rd edition it says to set the preload between 1.16 to 1.46kg. Is this correct or a printing mistake?Should it be between 3.5-4.5 kg like snuggs posted? I also run oil lubed bearings with Maxidrive flanges so I want to get the preload correct cause I dont want 80/90 gear oil leaking out of the swivel housing seal. Was also thinking of removing the inner axle seal to allow the swivel housing to breathe when wading so it dosent suck in water when hot.But when on a slop or angle will the oil from the swivel drain back into the diff and leave the bearings/cv's without oil? Cheers Aaron
  4. This is why here in Australia we convert our bearings to oil lubed rather then grease as was said ealier they get grit and dirt in the flanges and wear out the splins and flanges. Mine was converted to Maxidrive axles/flanges and oil lubed bearings in the rear when I bought it Iam about to do the same on the front as my flanges are worn out but I will also be converting to oil lubed bearings/cv joints no grease .
  5. Gday Guys I recently bought a sump gasket for 300Tdi through these guys http://www.karcraft.com.au/home.php there part number is KC301 they make them. I know that the postage might be a killer but enough of you guys want them you might be able to do a group buy. Cheers Azza P.s I also used black tube of high temp RTV gasket maker to make sure it sealed good.
  6. The tracks are still rough went through there about month ago with a few other forum members from another forum. My clutch is also on the to do list my clutch is fine its just the clunk sound so Iam quessing its the release bearing. Ive had a quote from MR Auto at Redcliff to replace with heavy duty new fork rear main seal ect $1500.00 bucks so will see what happens as I dont have the all the tools do the job.Ive got to get my leaking lift pump fixed/rebuilt first there goes $1500.00. Azza
  7. Seeing as Ive never owned or driven a TD5 I cannot realy comment on them. But Iam new to the landrover world we have only owned the defender 300tdi for about 8 months. But my main desion on purchasing the 300Tdi instead of the Td5 is we want to do alot of touring outback Australia ( simpson desert cape york) and if something brakes on the 300 Tdi you've got a good chance of fixing it but in saying that the Td5 is not the most complicated engines its just I know nothing about computers Iam a simple man. I just wish I could get my hands on a 90 over here they are so rare and expensive. Goodluck anyway Mate Azza I LOVE MY 300Tdi
  8. Gday Ted My old defender makes the same noise when my foot is off the clutch but when you push the clutch in it stops and sometimes when I release the clutch slowly it dosent happen. Also when i take it for a long drive and come home let it idle before shutting it down the soumd is not there. Have talked to other fender owners some of there fenders make the same sound and with 337 000km on the clock gotta expect a few noises. Goodluck with it Ted keep us posted.. Azza P.s We should catch up one day for drive......Compare noises and leaks
  9. Gday Well being a Aussie born and bread I say more the merrier. As bill said times are tuff here and are gunna get tuffer but I think most places and people are finding it harder these days.I live in Queensland and moved here from NSW about 5yrs ago and love it, I live at Bribie Island about 1hr from Brisbane. If was moving from Uk to Australia I would bring over if you can a extra defender 90 to sell cause like was said earlier they only imported them from 03 to 05 and they sell for alot over here and you could get your money back from moving over just buy selling a 90.I saw a 04 model td5 for sale very rare with 30 000km for $42 000 Aus dollars ..So its well worth thinking about it if any of you guys want to move here bring a 90 to sell.As a mater of fact bring as many defenders as possible .. Also to dougie's post you would have no problem here in queensland getting a job as a sparkie (electrician) there are always jobs advertised for your trade and great pay. Anyway I dont no anything about moving over here tax and what else but goodluck and hope too see you guys on the tracks and if you do move over here make sure you join our landrover forum http://www.aulro.com if you are already not a member... Regards Azza
  10. Well Iam new to this forum, found this forum through AULRO forum.Anyway It took me a full day of cursing and swearing to fit me AUX battery into my defender along with a Projecta 150amp Isolator. I didnt use a battery tray as both batteries are snug against each other and dont move and i put a piece if 6mm rubber between them so they dont rub againts each other. The AUX battery is a AGM 12v 120ha Deep cycle battery and its huge and heavy. The salesman told me I would never get it to fit ...The other battery is just a normal century cranking battery. Anyway hope this helps Cheers Azza
