  1. Priced up the tyres and they were so expensive it made more sense to get a set of 16's with proper tyres on them for the same price which gives me a set of offroad/winter and a set of summer wheels: I got them from Silverline and I have to say that their service was excellent.
  2. The Pirelli Scorpion A/T look like the best option; I'm guessing I'll have no issues running 60's instead of 50's?
  3. I've just picked up a 2004 Freelander TD4 Sport for the winter. I already have a Series III/Defender Hybrid (currently SORN) and I realise that my Freelander won't go where that will but yesterday I suffered a (very slow and as controlled as possible) 900 degree spin/slide downhill after it failed to climb it. The day before I managed to drive a number of closed roads (including Winnats Pass) without issue but I found that yesterday the tyres got so packed with snow that they became useless - I'm sure that this machine is more capable than its current tyres are. It currently has 235/50 R18's on it (3 Falken and 1 Continental) and as far as I can see there's no offroad tyre choices in this size so I was wondering what tyre options are available for my wheels or should I change the wheels and tyres. I'm not bothered about price as long as they're decent and will prevent more sliding!
  4. It's worth a look for sure; I'm guessing I can get at this easily? The weird thig is that if I try to hold it in reverse it grinds every time no matter how little gas I give it; if I put it in reverse and give it very little gas it does move
  5. I was wondering how easy/possible is it to fit the black arches from a Defender to a Series III? The Series has a Defender-look ront end now but still uses the Series wings and the back is still standard as well - is this possible? I have the spare arches but can't see how just cutting the wings would allow them to be fitted.
  6. I'm new to the forums so I'll start by saying hello! I have a 200TDi Defender 90 with an LT77 that's now refusing to stay in reverse gear; all forward 5 function perfectly but reverse is having none of it. If you put it in reverse and give it very very little gas and be careful with the clutch it will reverse a few metres before popping back out of gear. I was told by a friend that it could be the baulking ring - does this sound about right? I asked a local 4x4 specialist and they suggested swapping the box for a recon but that sounds a little drastic (and expensive) as all forward gears seem absolutely fine; can I just replace the baulking ring and if so how the hell would I do that - does the box (and engine) have to come out and what are my chances of success given I've no idea about this sort of thing?
