  1. I had the same problem on my '99 D2. Turned out to be the reciever and the removed item looked like it was lucky to of lasted as long as it did. my emergeny code is written on a little credit card sized card in the LR handbook thingy (offroad driving advice, basic maitenance guide and all those little booklet things), its got the radio code and stuff printed on it as well. i was stumped as it seemed to have too many digits, but it turns out the number 8 is noted down as 08 so the number looks too long ;oD best o luck
  2. well that's not too drastic, the radio powered up fine, fans were blowing and stuff as I turned key so I didn't think it would be that, but I guess it takes alot more umpf to start the thing than it does to run stuff ;o) Not sure of the age/condition of the battery so a new one wont be too difficult to explain to the wallet ;oD Dont suppose you know why all the dashboard lights flashed and it made the chirping noise do you? thats the thing that got me.. I thought that if there wasn't enough power it would just sit there. Mind you, if there was just too little it would make it to a certain point in it's start up then fail, and keep retrying? a head scratching thankyou... Paul.
  3. Had a similar problem this afternoon, but instead of one click then nothing, it was a rapid clicking (from under bonnet) and what seemed like a chirp from the alarm in time with the clicking, all the lights on the dashboard flashed in time with the clicking also. I tried to start it a few times and this resulted in a loud click from the centre of the dashboard. Managed to bumpstart and it now starts fine, but the radio now requests the code to be entered (complete power supply failure?). There seemed to be no power to the starter motor as when left in gear and turned over, nothing happened (except the chirping), no jerk or movement at all. Is this another symptom of a solinoid failure as no power was getting to the motor or is summit amiss elsewhere? sorry for hijacking thread but im hoping its a similar problem -falls to knees praying- Thankyou in advance ;o) Its a D2 '99 manual.
  4. cheers Farmer, now where did i put that damned pencil ;oD
  5. Hello there, After trawling the search option and the wise old 'tinternet I've drawn a blank... I'm trying to find the measurements of the load area of a 300tdi discovery 1. I'm interested in building something to fit within the load area but dont have imediate access to a real life one for a fair while so would like to get the base work done beforehand to save time (yeah...right! ;oD ). I've seen the cubic reference, but this doesnt help me with knowing such things as how wide the rear area is at its thinist, how far in the wheel arches are, how high they protrude etc etc etc... I'm pretty sure noone will have a sketch handy, but I'm hoping someone will of stumbled upon a diagram somewhere and could point me in the right direction... but then again I'm hoping someone whos done a camper conversion or similar maaay just of noted em down -crosses fingers- thanking you in advance... Paul.
  6. cheers BM, its only an inch or so as you comment so i guess its all part and parcel of the thing. Never noticed it before but glad to hear i havent broken summit ;o) Thanks for the reply.
  7. Hello there folks, Bit of a weird question, but I recently had to drop the rear seats of my '99 D2 TD5 and on putting them back upright they dont seem to of locked into place, the base is firmly in place but there seems to be a lot of play (forward/backward)in the upright section. I've tried the usual of repeating slowly, applying force, swearing loudly and at one point was bouncing on em trying to see if they would click into place... all of which failed, even attacking the mechanisms with WD"fixall"40 failed to make any alteration (I was hoping it just needed a bit of freeing up after being upright for so long without dropping). I was just about to call it quits and just accept the fact they had allways been like that when a friend of mine commented that the seats were loose while on a trip. Ive searched the forum with no luck, and cant find any mention of this querk anywhere. Im pretty sure it was solid before as the "loose" comment was from someone who has traveled in the back many times. Any help/guidance gratefully recieved as everytime I sit in the back "to check" it seems to be worse in my mind ;oD thanking you in advance... P
  8. thanks for the reply cipx2, yeah youre probably right, had a look at the suspension specs and the maintenace/overhaul and it explained and detailed the conections to "switch" to deflate/ reinflate the system, but then again, youd have to stop the system from trying to inflate it as you deflate it, then tell it where it was and that it was ok for it to be there and stuff... as ya say, it looks like alot of work... would of been a nice addition though Never know.. one dark winters night i might give it a go.. and completly fuse the system thanks anyway...
  9. Hello all, Finally took the plunge of owning a LR after many years, and settled on a '99 Discovery ES TD5. After having loads of mags and bits of paper spread out on the table with a large cup of tea, many hours scouring the web and much ohhhing and ahhing... the mind starts wandering to "what can I do to it?" On browsing through the 'tinternet I found out you can get a keyfob that allows the rear of the vehicle to lower for ease of access (yes, I'm still on air ), which seems a damned good idea, however the price brought on a nervous twitch (circa £200) and the thought of loosing another keyfob that actually does summit important worries me (I worry easy ) so I was wondering if it was possible, as Im going to be at the vehicle at the time of needing it, to fit a switch to the Disco to allow it to "sit down". I've tried the search thing and as many help pages as I can find but to no avail, I'm pretty sure that after all the wireless stuff, and stabbing of buttons, it comes down to a switch being toggled somewhere or some of those volts things being sent somewhere... does anyone know of a way to wire in such a switch, or can point me in a direction of somewhere that might? I used to mess about with old LR's and loved the banging and crashing to get stuff to work, and the general ability to fix stuff with some string and bluetack, but after looking under the skin of this Disco I'm not going to risk any "suck it and see" type stuff... don't want to let the smoke out of the electrical bits... it'll never work then Thanking you in advance, and congratulations on a very rewarding forum! P.
