cheers phil , thats good news about the bellhousing , got the 2.5 nad radiater from my 90 ( it's the vehicle the engine came out off ) . so i guess all i need now is engine mounts ( and someone who can weld better than me to put them on ) . thanks for all the help i thought i'd made a mistake buying one with a 2.6 but i could'nt resist . cheers people ...

    series 3 engine

thanks for all the info , i've just been told there maybe a 2.25 engine and box for sale local so i may just put that in for now , at least i can use it then . i'll also check if thats right about the bell housing swap ,that would be even quicker . i plan put a 200 tdi in it later ( i've got one with auto box in a scrapper ) but thats been earmark for someone else . ( dam) . thanks again , and if anybodys knows if the gearbox is the same could they let me know .
  3. hello everyone i could do with some help if you don't mind . today i bought a series 3 lwb van that i've been looking for for months , and i'm desperate to start using it and get rid of my 90 and my disco and get back to a propper landrover , the problem is the engine is duff and it's a 2.6 6 cylinder ( oh dear ) . now here is the problem . what would be involved in swapping it for a 2.5 nad that i have sat in my back yard ie : will it bolt up to my 6 cyl gearbox and engine mounts . ( other suggestions welcome) i have big plans for this motor at some point in the future but they need to wait due to other projects . i need and want to start using it now . all help and advise will be welcome , thanks in advance . rick...
  4. keep going , don't give up ,looking good , it's ashame you already started , i would have advised trying to keep the body in one piece , there a poxy knightmare to line up after . i still have trouble with my passenger door .
  5. good luck with your chassis change , just done mine . very enjoyable .
  6. ok everybody, thanks very much for all your help , i suppose i'd better do the right thing and report the changes , i think i would be better putting the standard suspension back on aswell , at least the only real change is then the engine . the chassis dos'nt sound like a big deal . a bit stupid of me not to think of all this while i was doing it , still you live and learn .
  7. number 1 , thank god , brand new from the manufacturer
  8. the chassis has a number printed on it , but it's very short ( can't remember without looking ) , if what you've said is correct i should be ok , i'll inform dvla of the changes , and speak to the local sva station , thanks for the help .
  9. thanks for the info landrover 598 , that looks like it could give me more help . the trouble is there's no detail , it mentions rebuild vehicles but doe'snt say what that means . it can't mean every landrover that has a new chassis that would be hundreds of vehicles per year . if it dos'nt mean chassis then all i need to worry about is the engine upgrade . i'll probebly end up asking them . bye the way , have you under gone the test .
  10. thanks for that western but these are the one's i've checked , they don't seam to give any details , don't really want to email them incase i open a big can off worm's .
  11. hello everybody , anybody know anything about sva. over the last six months or so i've been running my 90 as a rolling project , in june last year it was mot'd with a new chassis , during the mot the tester did'nt record the chassis swap or the number ( it do'es have one ) , i then taxed it and used it when i could , during the next few months further work was carried out including truck cab , suspension upgrade etc . then 3 weeks ago i converted it to 200tdi , while i was doing the engine someone mentioned there was'nt a lot left of the original landrover . it suddenly struck me i could have a problem . iv'e tryed to look on the internet for sva info , but to be honest i'm new to computers and the only thing i can find is a reference to a points system , if ( and i mean if ) i understand it correctly i could be ok , but i'm wondering what should i do , and should i say something at the next mot . by the way , ive known the mot tester for years and i find it hard to believe he's made a mistake , he's well know for being strict , thats why i go to him , you know your landrover will pass any test if he's past it . i've got a nagging doubt that all is not well , i don't mind doing the right thing , but i need to know what that is . any help would be very welcome and would at least point me in the right direction .
  12. ok , thanks for the help everybody , your all a god send , i'll check it out now i've got more info
  13. thanks for the response , just the answers im looking for . axle change was more to do with disc brakes than anything else , but i did'nt know the ratios were the same . is it poss to convert my drums to disc without changing axles.
  14. thanks for the help , i'll have to check whats involved . it would be simpler to just put the disco box in but i would need to change the bellhousing , it's longer apparently and would move the gearbox to far back. this would also mean changing the input shaft .
  15. THANKS FOR THE WELCOME , DO THE TRANSFER CASES JUST UNBOLT AND SLIDE OFF ( HE SAY HOPEFULLY ) OR IS THERE MORE TO IT THAN THAT . GEARBOXES ARE SCARRY THINGS I HAVE IMAGES OF SPRINGS AND BALLBEARING FLYING EVERYWHERE . BY THE WAY , I PLAN TO CHANGE BOTH AXLES OVER WHEN THE WEATHER CALMS DOWN A BIT SO THAT SHOULD HELP .
