  1. my 96 disco will only start within 10 seconds of presing the electronic key fob. my wife once oppend the car with the key and it took me ages to figger out why it woudent start.
  2. I have a 300tdi. When used every day there is no problem but if it left for a week and a half or two weeks without running, the battery although it has power, hasn't enought to start the engine. Jump leads immediately start it , no problem, Any ideas?? Cheers
  3. Many years ago i had a similar problem with a car which turned out to be, wait for this, A sweet wrapper in the fuel tank !! and intermittently would block the fuel outlet. When the car had been stopped it floated free and then the car would start again, only to occur again at some random time, sometimes once a month, sometimes twice a day... Just an off the wall Idea which it may well be, a blockage... Hope you find the problem, i know it drove me mad..
  4. no all standard parts [this is a jap import with 61000 on the clock by the way]
  5. I have a 1996 Automatic Disco. It changes into top gear at 52 mph, is it possible to make it change into top at plus minus 45mph. It feels that it should change earlier when I'm driving, plus this would surely make it more economical and I don't feel I need the high revs. Any ideas?? Cheers
  6. To: cpx2 Took the speed sensor out, cleaned it, tested it. Put it back to try it and it works !! Don't know how long for but happy for now. Especially as Paddock quoted £44 plus p and p. Thanks a lot for the input.
  7. Thanks, will try this tomorrow.
  8. I had same problem at MOT time with my 96 disco. Changed discs and pads on front with kit from paddock all fixed now.
  9. My disco is a 1996 so it's an electronic speed sensor type. The speedo has just stopped working, can anyone tell me how to test the sensor to find out if it's that or the clock that's gone. Any help will be appreciated, cheers.
  10. Hi there can anyone help?? I need a new exhaust part for my 300tdi Discovery [Japanese Import] and can't find a site online which supplies these. Apparently the normal Brit Disco part is different. Norman
  11. Hi there, I'm having to say goodbye to my Disco 300 tdi, packing in work and my other vehicle gets double the mileage so no option I'm afraid. Can anyone advise on the best place to market it, it's a 1996 Auto and there are only 61,000 miles on so I'm hoping it will go easily. Cheers
  12. One month ago my 300tdi Auto 96 Jap import, EXACTLY the same problem as yours. If you look further down at the latest post on my Discofan name, I added that yesterday. This will take you though all the things I did and the helpful replies. In the end when it wouldn't start, the same as yours, and I was also beside myself as you are, I gave up and put it on a trailer and took it to the agents [can't tow automatic]. Was very worried about costs but they fixed it and charged me one hours' labour only. The fuel needed bleeding even though I'd done it 4 times myself. When I got it back it started but was difficult from cold. I tested the glow plugs with a test light and found that 2 weren't working [they were fine before the head went]. They looked perfect but only the test with the light showed two faulty[1 and 4]. It is now going a treat, hope this helps. I know EXactly how you must feel, good luck.....
  13. Hi there, Bringing you up to date with my long running saga, she is now FIXED...very happy.... Recovered the Landy to the agent when it wouldn't start after replacing the head. They were great. They bled the fuel system and got it started. They only charged me £80 odd. It took a bit of starting, pumping etc. so I bought 4 new glow plugs from Paddock Spares. The story there was that they cost me £2.58 each plus vat instead of the £20.50 each plus vat!!! Paddock got them to me next day. Their service is faultless. Put the new ones in and lo and behold, magic.... Statrts fine now and after an oil and oil filter change it's driving a treat. Thanks for all the technical support. Norman
  14. Picked the disco up yesterday from the agents. They had bled the fuel system, re-charged the battery, £80 odd . Drove it 30 odd miles home and it drove and sounded sweet. So it seems that the work I did doing the head etc turned out right, also another thing was I replaced the thermostat as it didn't seem to be spot on when I tested it [may have been the cause of the whole nigtmare?] All the help from you landy techies was appreciated and also your interest in the results. [sotal] I am a fairly new forum member although have had Landies on and off for years.I'll watch the forum for sure from now on. cheers
