  1. This happens quite often after an oil change as I read on the Duch Forums, It wil go away after a while and we think it has got something to do with tiny air bubbles in the valvesystem of the autobox. To speed things up you can just flog it hard with a warm engine and rev it up as far as you dare. but you've done that as I read,.... 99.9% will start to work proper again after a bit of time, so you might give it time before you open up the box. grtn RoLandRover
  2. Thank you very much aswel! you're both of much help to me but there's something I do not understand,... by reading a lot on the inet and Dess Hammill's book, I have always thought the maximum ignition advance could not exceed 28degr for a 4.6 rover v8,... do I understand something very wrong??? 'couse both of your maps exceed the 28 degrees by far,..36 til even 44?? How can this be so much without any problems?? cheers RoLandRover http://rolandrover.mijnalbums.nl
  3. So sorry I'm late to reply,.. but busy busy busy,.. I have driven the car and it feels fine but so far it seems to be a bit more thirsty, but it soes rev a bit easier. I'll see on the long term what it does to fuel consumption. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! grtz RoLandRover
  4. For some reason the search option does not like words shorter then 3 letters,... so searching for 4.6 does not work,... neither Vex, map or V8,.. thats making it tough to pick'em out of 2 days reading. Have you got any suggestions to find them in there? thanks for the help Roland
  5. Hi guys, I've been experimenting over the last half a year with the Megajolt ignition but I just can;t be fully satisfied with the maps I have made up myself. Is there anyone out there with a similar setup who's willing to share the map with me? The engine setup I have is: Rover 4.6 9.35:1 3.9 heads skimmed 1.2 mm Composite head gaskets. Kent H180 cam with shimmed valve train JWR Offenhauser manifold Edelbrock 500 Carb. SS tubular sports Exhaust. Ofcoarse I would like to try any different setup maps just to get a proper base setting. The car also runs on a IMPCO 425 LPG system but like I said,..any 4.6 map wil do to start with. Hope one of you can help me out sending one to my email. Icanhelp@rolandrover.nl regards, RoLandRover , who has enjoyed the Billing show last weekend.
  6. Have a look at mine,.. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=TLQCICKI the've been bend on 2 points at the chassis side, chopped and lengthened in the middle, and chopped en re-angled at the axle bracket end. had it welded by an expert welder it's cast-steel and no cast iron. I do not have measeurements as it evolved during the build-up (make sure they're safe mate!) grtn RoLandRover
  7. Thank You If the ARP headbolts are reuseable then i'll have those!
  8. I'm just an old fashioned guy The Carb is mainly an expensive throttle body to operate the LPG flow, and around europe will act as a petrol back-up,..jsut in case of need..... I will have a look at the ARP head-stud kit,..if its really that good then I need to have,... Mega-squirt is nice, but as I will be driving on LPG not that big of a deal for me I think, also cost-wise,... maybe later with LPG injection?? thanx a very lot! RoLandRover http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=TLQCICKI
  9. I probably do a bit of work to the heads with the dremel, DoubleS sports exhaust allready got a nicely looking adjustable camgears and chain. I allso haven't got a cluw what 'rummage' means and do not know what an ARB is you probably do not refer to the bumper manufacturer And are those headbolts of a specific type? sorry if i'm boring you,.... but i'm so happy with all information about the conversion I grab all I can,.. The 'search' function does have a nasty fault in it,...you can;t lookup words shorter then 4 karakters,... searching for '4.6 v8' does not work in any way have a nice weekend man and thanx for the info!
  10. hmm,... I have allready bought the Camshaft It is a 5 speed it's mostly road use, and heavely loaded holidays in mountain rich areas around europe. It will run an IMPCO 225 LPG system which is allready up and running in my car on a 3.5 so no problems when offroading. (thats why I have the plenum on top, so the intake can be fed with LPG mixture) probabl,....y i'll keep the setup as money is allready tight and buildup of the 4.6 has not even started yet. while we're at it,... have you got any ideas about the amount of mm that need to be taken away in order to maintain compression above 9:1? i'll be using 3.5/3.9 heads combined with the composite headgasket. My thoughts wend out to shaving the decks and heads equaly or is this nonsens? ( I do now I have to trim/set the valve train with it, even the manifold seems to be needing a 'shave' on both sides complex stuff,...I LOVE IT
  11. I love seeing them in real Damn I do have a manual 5speed,.. but would you believe me I hardly ever exeed 4000rpm!? daily cruising is @ around a maximum of 3500rpm I do believe your stand though, but doesn't a longer power band take longer to reach top torque at a higher rpm reading? seen from an other point of view: . I believe by gaining a lot of torque at lowerrrrr rpm readings,.. your narrowing the powerband. Will the torque at lower rpm readings still be as high? the other way around: By stretching the useable powerband,..maximum lb.f.ft. will only be reached at a higher rpm. this might only be my simple thinking I'm just a dutch bicyclesalesman what I want is Smoothness instead of HP,.... am I beeing silly now????
  12. No doubt V8,.. why? Why TF not! it's allready a costly hobby,....so make it the most pleasant you can! that's where the LPG comes in combined with a tax exrmpt classic vehicle. CHEERS RolandRover http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=TLQCICKI
  13. Hi Nigel, there is no reason to rev her up over 4500, its a heavy car with 285/75-16 tyres,.. @ 2500 in 5th it allready runs 120/125 km/h I really like the car to be torqie and <ahum> ''economical'' to drive. solid lifters and all are really not an option or necessary either IMHO Now get out now!! Cheers, by the way,..you seem to be a bit into the matter,....what do you think about the different manifolds? <img src="http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PCMIJQKY.jpg"> this is the one i got laying around,..it has got a strange bolting square compared to the carb and gasket, It allso seems to be machined inside o f it,... someone got an idea why??? RolandRover http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=TLQCICKI <img src="http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-3PIFWQZI.jpg"> nice isn't it!?
  14. Thanx, but I hate to ask advise of some company where I won't buy the parts, Cost-wise I probably need to get the jets and bits here in the Netherlands, or I need to get more parts to make it profitable with shipping-costs calculated. any one any advise about the manifold? I tend to choose for the Dual-plane. have a nice weekend all!! RoLandRover
  15. Does anyone have an idea about which jets and needle sizes are needed for a 4.6 v8? the block wil std. with compression between 9 and 10 (depending on heads) exhaust wil be tubular SS, camshaft wil be the Kent 180 (torque up to 4500rpm) manifold Offenhauser dual or 360,... I still have to choose the carb is the new Thunder 500, basicly the same as the Performer 500 but with a new 'load/accelerate setting) they share the same internals and jets etc. Who can help me out which ones to order as a default setting, and wich of both manifolds to choose from. many thanx RoLandRover. http://rolandrover.mijnalbums.nl
  16. that's what I had planned to do this monday too should work fine I hope. just love this model of wheels.
  17. yes,. I did double-check (and tighten) those We'll give it another try this monday, grtz
  18. did you've had the same problems with these Bowy? the dent has been repaired, and now mounted as a rear wheel. No trouble there. btw,..shouldn't you be on your way to Dakar ? grtz Roland
  19. they are horrible to get balanced!! Is it because of that poor quality I can't find them anywhere for sale? I really like the looks of them but a maximum top speed of 50 miles an hour to prevent a boneshaking shudder throughout my car. These wheels have been balanced in different shops to cure the problem, All bushes end bearings in the drive and steeringline are fine. I allready had these tires on steel rims and all was fine, also with the car riding on the small interim wheels no problem at all. grtz RoLandRover
  20. To bad you weren't around some months ago! I had the same problem the other way around I haven't got my Disco tdibox no more,.... I still haven't found a proper one to be honest When test driving for the first time last week , the reverse didn't work .. .. .. for some reason there are plenty more differences as well internal, as external within the LT77 range over the years, and models....... Anyways,.. need to say this forum is superb for all the knowledge around! i'll never abandon our Dutch green-prikkers-forum but for the specials íll always keep an eye on this place! grtzz, RoLandRover
  21. Thanx Dave, appreciate it, will do an inventory. grtz, Roland
  22. Hi folks, I've got a 'minor' problem with my gearbox, just when I could drive my first meters with the car It doesn't stay in reverse! I need a Longstick box to suit my RR, and I have plenty of LT's of variing types laying around which should work fine. so I'd like to know, can i swap the case-extension of the longstickbox with i.e. the later shortstickbox versions? or even better with an R380? hope to hear! 23. I just took off the Injection system of the RR motor,..so may be later. I had , and still have a fobia for electronics,.... anyway, I will for the most of times run LPG ( 46 euro cents so I would be stupid if I didn't ),.so this far I think I would be better of with a Gas-only sollition. I just wanted a reliable back-up if lpg isn;t available e.g on a holiday-trip the IMPCO 225 is directly mounted on a Offenhauser manifold, so should work fine. this far thanks all for the Input,..just hoped the hear the 600 carb was suitable for the engine so I could swap the 225 for a system mounted on top of the carb. cheers mates, gr, Roland
