Hi all, Does anyone know of anywhere i can go offroading as i have never had my p38 off road. i am in london so something not too far would be best and also something not too difficult as it will be my first time. cheers john

No its not losing any water. i have had a replacement block put in, heads skimmed and checked, valves replaced god knows the list can go on for ever.

I just took the rr out round the block (15min) it did not overheat but when i got back i popped the bonnet and the radiator top hose seems quite hard almost like its bulging, does anyone have any ideas???

How do i get rid of an airlock? May be a stupid question i know but i am trying to do as many things as i can myself. cheers john

Ok i have owned it for 2 months but it has been in the garage for most that time i only got it back a couple of days ago it had the dreaded liner problem so it has been rebuilt. It has done just over 100k The coolant level is ok, the fan belt was replaced last week so is brand new. what do you mean is the radiator obstucted?

The coolant level is fine, i am in london so no extreme weather. Are there any checks that i can do to eliminate one thing or another? thanks for the replies

hi all, I have a 1999 p38 4.0. I was driving it yesterday and the temp gauge was sat on half way after about half hour of driving i stopped went in to a shop to pick up the radio for it, i was in the shop no more than 2 mins, got back in turned the key and the temp gauge went straight up to the red for about 5 secs then went back to the middle. Drove another 5 mins and the temp slowly creeped up to the red and light came on. I left it for about 20 mins and the temp was back down to halfway. so my question is should the temp jump up that quickly? and could it showing a wrong temp on the dash? or does this sound like something else? Any advice will be gratefully received. cheers john

I have recently rebuilt the engine on my 4.0 p38 1999 but it has developed a slight misfire, after putting it on a diagostic machine it came up with a fault on the injector on cylinder 3. My question is which cylinder is number 3? Your help will be gratefully recieved. John

I have a 1999 rr 4.0L, which has just had a engine rebuild but it has a slight misfire I have changed the spark plugs and leads, not sure what else to check just hope the engine dont have to come back out... thanks in advance for any help John

i have a 1999 rr v8 and i have just finished rebuilding the engine, got in it today for a drive and i have a 20mph max warning on the dash. i have tried changing to a different ride hieght but to no avail. Am i doing something wrong? i have only driven the car for a week since i bought it so dont have much experience with the eas. and also is it safe to drive while the warning is on? cheers john

Hi all, i have a 1999 rr p38 4.0 i was given 2 remotes when i bought the car but only one works, is there any way that it can be programmed? And can i do it myself or does it have to be done by LR. the second thing is my rr does not have tv/sat nav but would the wiring be there if i wanted to install one? John

The fault has now been diagnosed as the transfer box. does anyone have one for sale?

The Tc was not removed and nor was the transmision. A friend says it may be the transfer box, would the grinding noise be consistent with a transfer box problem? The noise happens when put into drive, reverse and even when you try and put it in park.

The engine seems to line up ok, all the bolts line up and went in fine. forgot to say when you put it into drive or reverse it grinds but it is not engaging a gear so does not move at all.

I HAVE JUST FITTED MY ENGINE AFTER REBUILDING IT AND IT STARTED UP FIRST TIME. BUT NOW WHEN THE GEARBOX IS PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE IT JUST MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM? ANY ADVICE WELCOME.

i will be putting the engine back in tommorow, what antifreeze and what mixture should i use?

also the crank sensor was welded to the block, does this have to be re welded as i had to break the weld to get it off. i have been looking for a new thermostat and have found several different ones all with different temps, which would be better higher or lower temp?

i am fitting composite gaskets but not sure what heads they are the ones that were on the car it is a 1999.

I am about to start putting it all back together but it seems to me that i am gonna have a problem getting to the bolts on the bell housing. i am using the studs rater than head bolts do you guys think i should put the heads back on while the engine is out or put in the block first and then build it up in the car? i would like to build it back in the car because the bellhousing bolt are hard to get to with the heads on. but will there be enough space to put the heads on and clear the studs? any help welcomed. john

hi, i have a 1999 p38 and have found a set of 255/60 r18 wheels from a 2003 r/r vogue will these fit my r/r without any mods?

So just to be clear the studs are put in the block and sealed in to become permanent, then put on the gaskets and heads and only a nut to hold it??? is this safe? any idea where i can buy them or get prices? john

its a later cross bolted engine so only 2 rows of bolts, what are arp studs?? i have now replaced pistons, cam bearings, big ends, main bearing, rods,liners, valve seals, valves, is there anything else that should be done?? do i need new head bolts? john

ok, in the end i have replaced everything in the block too and i am about to put it all back together, but which headgaskets do i go for the standard tin or the composite? what is the difference between them? and which are better. can you guys recommend any thing that should be done when putting it back together? should i buy new head bolts? etc any help greatly accepted as i dont want to have to take it apart again. i have already got new thermostat, oil pump, water pump should i change anything else. cheers john

hi all, i am in the process of rebuilding my 4.0l 1999 v8 and i have found a second hand block is there any way of checking it? i am aware that they tend to crack if overheated so would like to make sure all is well before fitting it as i have spent alot £ on the heads new everything!!! any advice welcome cheers

i did speak to RPI and yes they tried to sell me a new long engine for about 3grand plus loads more but yes some of what they say makes sense and they are helpful
