  1. Steve I'm not asking anyone to make my mind up for me I have driven both in the past and have my opinion on how both handle. What I'm asking and I guess I didn't phrase it properly. Which one is going to last longer, I'm hearing Puma cross members are rusting up inside of three years, paint so thin if you sneeze too hard it will come off are these just one off's or the reality of an inferior product. Thanks
  2. Hi Guys The bug for another Defender has bitten and very hard, since I now have a little one a 110 is the name of the game. I'm seeing some very big critiques of the Puma, rust etc. This begs the question would it be better to go with the devil I know and look at late model low mileage TD5's instead. Sorry if this has been done to death, have searched.
  3. Ahh yeah, that would help wouldn't it. Chassis/outriggers/crossmember are in sound condition, i've kept it all waxoly'd, body has a few little dents and scratches but the paint work is fine. Transmission again is good and solid, no wobble or noises. Since owning it I've had it garage serviced at regular intervals.
  4. Hi Guys Sorry if this type of post isn't allowed, I couldn't find anything to say I couldn't. I'm seriously considering selling my 90 but don't have a clue how much it would be worth. I've compiled a list of all its main details. It has been used off road and for towing medium sized trailers no competition use. 5. Never really thought about auto before, What box would I need who from and what sort of ££ are we talking. Aragorn It comes with a single mass flywheel.
  6. Hi Guys Had Mr Pete from B.A.S do his magic on my Defender a couple of weeks ago and at the time he did warn me to take it easy on the gear changes etc. However as gentle as I've tried to be when firmly engaged in 3rd/4th and applying the power with vigour as soon as boost kicks in it slips and I have to back off. So the obvious solution to me is get a better clutch plate, i've seen 3 heavy duty options but apart from rakeway cant really find many reviews or opinions. The other are britpart and brookwell kits. I'm not cash shy and am happy to spend the money on the the rakeway kit as it does seem to be the nuts. But a better deal is still a better if indeed it does what it says on the tin. Power wise its got VNT turbo, boost box, uprated inter cooler and B.A.S tuned. All options opinions welcome. Regards Chris.
  7. Would this be any good if i stretched the budget and saved? http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/karcher-k855-hs-domestic-hot-water-pressure-wa
  8. Whats wrong with 300lt a minute lol, yes I meant an hour. Thanks for the advice, seen that Karcher do a domestic/semi-pro range of steam cleaners around the £700 mark so might save up for one of those bad boys.
  9. Ahh like the sound of that, used steam before but hired the unit.
  10. I looked at them, but the further you go up the money range they seem to comes with lots of extras and very little power increase, but then i'm not sure how much power you actually need in the first place is a 100bar and 300lt/per min ok or is more needed?
  11. Hi Guys Looking for a pressure washer, got a budget of about £300-400 tops. What do people recommend for keeping a defender clean, not looking for fancy gadgets but not looking to strip the waxoyl off either, just something that is going to deal with stubborn chassis mud etc. Thanks
  12. I came back from a trip to Normandy two weeks ago, we 5 vehicles filled up fine on UK chip and pin cards. Must be certain pumps.
  13. I didn't think it was the defenders max weight, more so the max weight allowed by law? On another note do you really want to be lifting up and down that much weight every time you want to fill up and load up.
  14. I just gave my Km2s (255-85-16) a good thrashing in Normandy doing some green laning. Unbalanced on standard boost alloys I got a little front wobble at about 75. In the brown stuff they were wicked, plenty of grip and control all so felt totally at easy on some wet muddy rock. I'm very happy with them.
  15. Same for me and a mate, no instructions in a total of 5 tanks.
  16. I looked at IRB, but there up in York as well lol
  17. Hi guys, I'm in a predicament, I want to get a bit more power out my 90. Its got an Ali sport full size inter cooler, VNT from Pete at BELL and straight through exhaust along with EGT removal. The only thing i've not had do is remap. My problem is I live in the channel islands and Bell who I would prefer to use are up in York. On top of a £200 ferry bill its a 5/6 hour drive so a few tanks of fuel plus the cost of the tune and the reverse journey and accommodation. Is there any body down south that people would trust to do a good tune? Or am I just gonna have to get saving? Thanks
  18. You can get various treatments for canvas that help stop mold growing. I'd check with your supplier to what type of canvas they used and what it was originally treated with. If not any decent product will do. Your workshop will more than likely be getting a little damp for this to be happening, could try a dehumidifier in there. You'll be surprised how much moister they pull out the air.
  19. I had a KAM Locker fitted by the boys at Kam last summer. Absolutely love it, engages instantly and disengages almost as fast. I've not needed it yet but I felt that if i needed support the guys at KAM will offer it. Plenty of time for me as customer when i was there, showed me round the workshop and had a look various products they were making. Cant praise them enough. Unless you look at the pan your not going to sport it. Im sure I remember seeing they come in different colours, but if your that worried id just paint it black and stick a coat of waxoil over the top. If your landy is going to get stolen its going to get stolen. Big tyres, winches etc will all catch the eye faster than a diff case especially if painted black.
  20. Hmm, seems then that the exhaust/turbo should not be effecting the fuel consumption to much. I'll have to take to the garage to get a diagnostics check done then.
  21. Hi guys On my TD5 I have a straight through exhaust system, the back box went bye bye when I got a side exit. This got fitted at the same time I put in a BAS VNT. I'm noticing my fuel is being eaten at alarming rate even on right foot friendly journeys. Could this be down to the real lack of back pressure now or just that it really needs a remap? Thanks
  22. I had to do one when I was insured with AXA. I went to my local landy garage. Got to the effect of, yeah all looks ok written on headed paper. As long as the engineer has either a formal mechanical qualification or time served then they can do one. The whole process is purely a paper one so the buck can be passed on in the even the stupid gene kicks in and you have accident.
  23. Hi Guys I'm looking at getting some new shoes for my 90. I'm liking the idea of going for something bigger. But how big is too big? I've got the following. 1 inch all round OME HDs springs and +2 inch shocks with dislocation cones on the rear and rear kam locker with HD half shafts/hubs. So what in peoples opinions would be the biggest practical tyre I could fit. I'm liking the look of some Simmex Jungle trekkers. Thanks.
