Eightpot
This could be interesting if it ever gets off the ground : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/02/13/land-rover-defender-lives-billionaire-owner-ineos-plots-new/
Cynic-al
All the best to him, I guess if he could get some military / utility contracts it would give him a base demand and a test bed. My experience of farmers is they either have the farm truck which is as cheap as possible as it gets leaned on by cows and eaten by sheep, then a range rover for best, of they have something like a discovery commercial for both. At the £25k mark I guess he's sat between the two markets. I don't know many explorers that run new vehicles, maybe if they're funded for research or something? Bowie69
Bloke at the farm across the road from me has a brand new Toyota Hilux double cab, and his old Hilux (like the one Top Gear tried to destroy). I initially thought he had replaced his old one with a new one, however the old one turned up with a replacement bed on it recently, completely different colour to the cab, but I can bet you which one he thinks is more useful. western
that Ineos idea has been canned by LR a few months ago, they will not release the press tools or give up the name. perhaps he should actually make the vehiclefirst & show prospective buyers what it's like. Bowie69
In the interview this morning, they said that LR weren't going to sell anything, but that Ineos were going to make their own vehicle, based on new tech, but utilitarian, very well worth a listen, linked in here:
landrovermanuk
In the interview last year, the guy said he asked to buy the tooling from LR. They said no, so he said he would make all new tooling as it would have a better finish than the old LR stuff. He made it sound like it would look exactly like the Defender but with better engines and quality control...
BogMonster
Given that you can buy every part on the vehicle from somewhere or other that isn't Land Rover, I'm curious as to what stops him (or anybody else) just buying up all the bits and assembling them? Clearly not cost effective at parts counter prices but if you were doing it in bulk the economics might look completely different.

There are few members on this forum that could do exactly that with their stashes... My coat? Why thank you!

dailysleaze
They just need to make it so we can replace the body panels with Defender ones; then we get what we want
Eightpot
So this new British off roader is being designed by a German Mercedes Benz design team, in Germany after the contract was awarded by its chief exec Dirk Himmelman, and will probably be built at a European site. Zat is gut ya.
