Chicken Drumstick
Hi guys. After some pointers. I have early Disco 1 axles with the 10 spline non ABS. Think the same as RRC's. I've also been given some 24 spline 4.10:1 diffs that I'd like to use. So trying to figure out what parts I'll need to convert them 24 spline. Rear: Can I just use the 24 spline integral flange shafts from a latter 24 spline Disco axle? http://www.paddockspares.com/ftc3270-rear-halfshaft-rh-24-spline-with-integral-drive-flange.html Only concern is, if the flange has a different PCD. If I can't, what's the route to sort this? Hoping to stick to stock half shafts at the present. Plan is to eventually upgrade to Ashcroft shafts, but that will make it too costly for now. I assume the other option would be a 24 spline shaft from a Defender as it doesn't have the integral flange: http://www.paddockspares.com/tob500030-rear-halfshaft-lh.html And use the drive flange from Ashcroft (bit pricey) http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/drive-flanges/5806m.html Front: I suspect is a little more confusing being that there are more parts. Def going to need some help and advice on this.
toenden
Hi. When I converted to 24 splines in the front of my 90" I changed the stubaxle, hub and drivemember to 24 spline parts bolted to my old swivelhousing and axle. That works great. The only downside I can se in this setup, is you are getting the narrower wheelbearingmount. The brakedisc kept in the right place so the old calibers were reused aswell. I dont know about the rear as I run a drumaxle but with 24 spline and the original 24 spline halfshafts with seperate drivemembers but I am pretty sure the lengths will be wrong for a disc braked axle. /Mads
miketomcat
Should swap straight over unless you have a really early disco axle which were imperial. PCD is the same but holes are smaller Easy to tell as the drive flanges bolts don't fit. Front iirc you need to swap cvs as well as shafts and possibly drive flanges. Rear either shafts from disco or defender. Mike
Cornish Rattler
The gearing will be greatly effected as series had 4.7-1 Diffs and Defs had 3.54-1 Difs not herd of 4,10-1 Difs in a landy but I could be wrong

Bowie69
Yup, easily available, and often stronger, if not always stronger, than the stock stuff
