MR-HIPPO
Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. I am in the process of rebuilding a 1989 110 CSW onto a Marsland chassis, with a Defender200tdi engine The original wiring was pretty shot, so I decided to upgrade to something a little more recent and add some security while I was at it. I have purchased a 300tdi main loom off of a breaker advertising on ebay, complete with alarm and / immobiliser components. and have the correct new chassis loom from Autosparks. I am however still missing the engine harness (the seller did not realise that the engine harness was required for the immobiliser and I had purchased and fitted the Autosparks chassis loom before this became apparent) The main loom I have is from a P reg 300tdi 110 CSW (vin - TA99.....) part number AMR4983, and the original vehicle had alarm / immobiliser and EGR. I would like to retain the alarm and mobilisation functions, but obviously EGR will not be needed with a 200tdi. There seem to several variations of 300tdi engine harness available, with various options. I have done a lot of reading around online, but am unclear as to how interchangeable the different 300tdi loom sections are. Are the different 300tdi engine looms interchangeable? Or is the matching main harness required for each engine loom.? I guess it all comes down to how universal is that 13 way connector? The loom that catches my eye at the moment is AMR6334 (300tdi engine harness no EGR with alarm (V)VA107823- -(V)WA159806), this seems to be an affordable option. Will this plug and play with what I have, and would it have the mobiliser wiring? Thanks in advance, Hippo. western
I doubt LR would have used different plugs for different model year looms, any 300tdi engine loom should fit any other 300tdi engine regardless of options such as EGR/ or EDC, just don't connect those wires or remove them from the loom. MR-HIPPO
Thank you. I was hoping that would be the case, i just wanted some confirmation before dumping more money on this. Can anyone confirm if the AMR6334 loom carries the wiring for the immobiliser ECU? Better still, if anyone has a second hand engine harness from a 300tdi defender that had an alarm and immobiliser I could be very interested. Thanks again, Hippo. MR-HIPPO
Thanks again, but that information is in my original post. So excuse my ignorance but would you take that to be a yes or no on the immobiliser wiring? Thanks again, again, Hippo. western
Yes, to that particular loom including the immobiliser wiring
MR-HIPPO
Thank you so much for the clarification. It seems to be readily available through LRDirect for sensible money. Thanks, now thrice, Hippo
MR-HIPPO
A quick update on this. Having tried to order the AMR6334 loom, it seems that neither LR Diredt, or Brit-Car are able to supply it. Hippo. western
Probably because its a obsolete loom, listed by these suppliers of LR parts --------------- https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rover-parts/amr6334-wiring-assy.html https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/amr6334-wiring-949724-p.asp https://cars245.co.uk/item/land-rover-AMR6334-harness-engine-65-amp-burglar-alarm/ & as you've already found Autosparks only list this [but with no Alarm or EGR wires] ENGINE HARNESS 300TDI PART NO:LR629FINISH:PVC Cables with a Taped Outer CoveringCHASSIS NO:MA949878 - WA159807 300Tdi Engine Harness with no Alarm, EGR or A/C. MR-HIPPO
Thanks Western. Alas as I have just discovered, listed may not mean available. LR Direct were showing it as a direct from Land Rover part with 2 day DHL delivery, but when I enquired they found that they could no longer get it from any of there suppliers, and have since updated their website to reflect this. I have sent enquiries off to Craddocks, and Advanced Factors but am not overly hopeful now. As for Cars245 £667 seems a tad steep for a ~£100 part and is not within my budget. For something that was started as a simple ebay transaction, this has become rather expensive, and quite stressful. The original purchase was described as "Defender 110 300 TDI CSW fusebox and full wiring loom. The loom and fusebox are all in good condition. Its been removed with care and the complete loom - front to back - is included. The only wires that have been cut are some of the earth wires where the bolts were too rusted to be removed. This is an ideal replacement item and its fully tested and in good working order. This loom includes the alarm and immobiliser and EGR componenets and everything is in full working order." When I spoke to the seller and explained that I was retrofitting more recent electrics into an older vehicle, he assured me that all the required parts for the alarm and immobiliser functionality were included, the engine loom however was not part of the sale. The seller was unaware that the immobiliser wiring all runs through the 13 way main loom to engine loom econseal connector. The seller explained that the chassis section of the loom (included in the sale) was still in the chassis, and I would need to allow a week for him to take the body off as it would then be easier for the loom to be removed. After 10 days had passed, the seller contacted me and informed me that he was having problems getting the chassis loom out and "unless he could remove it without taking the body off" he would have to cancel the sale. It had taken me a few weeks to source this complete electrical system prior to purchasing from the seller, and with the 10 days that had elapsed since, I had quite a lot of time invested in this, and there was no guarantee that another system would turn up any time soon. I got the chassis number for the donor vehicle from the seller and found that Autosparks could supply the chassis section (now holding up my refurb) for £110, the seller agreed to deduct £60 from the originally agreed price and we continued with the transaction. I ordered the Aurosparks loom and had it installed in my chassis before the rest of the electrics arrived, only then to discover that I required the engine harness (apparently this had been sold with the engine) The seller did offer a full refund If I returned the wiring /alarm / immobiliser parts, but as I had already purchased (and fitted) the Autosparks loom I now had both money and time invested in this. I really need to dig up an engine harness soon, this has cost around £300 so far and looks like it will cost another £100 or so assuming I can source the part I was originally enquiring about here. For a £250 transaction, this is starting to get out of hand. Sorry, I really needed to vent that. Thank you so much for all your input so far, Hippo. western
no idea why the eBay seller said he has to remove the body to get chassis loom out, that's a load of bollox, it just has to be disconnected at both ends then carefully pulled out, might be worth looking at or trying a Discovery 300tdi engine loom, but it'll probably have to be a used loom
PaulMc
Have you tried Keith Gott? - he stocks a lot of obsolete parts. He's listing AMR6334 - http://www.keithgott.co.uk/parts_images.html AMR6334 Engine Wiring Harness for 300 TDI Defender (Genuine). £110.23 + VAT £132.28 incl VAT
MR-HIPPO
Thanks, Paul. Email enquiry sent. Hippo
MR-HIPPO
Craddocks have replied to my enquiry "Unfortunately we cannot source this part. I apologise for any inconvenience. " It is however still listed on their site and you can still "Add to Basket" LR Direct were much more on the ball when they discovered that they could no longer source the part and immediately updated the listing to reflect this. oneandtwo
I may have that loom, I'll check later this afternoon - I scrapped two 1998 300tdi defenders last year and still have a box of looms

MR-HIPPO
Thanks to assistance from oneandtwo & paulMC, I now have a second hand loom minus the 10 way immobiliser plug, and the correct plug and fittings to make it suit my needs. Many thanks to everyone who has offered help and advice here. Hippo.
