Tree/Rock Sliders - Welded On?

I have a Disco 2 and am thinking of getting a set of rock/tree sliders and welding them on (puddle weld in the holes and seam weld the edges where possible/easy)..

Are there any downsides with this approach?

Cheers

Makes them harder to change if you damage them I guess.

I welded plates onto the chassis to spread the load then bolted the rock sliders to the plates. If you cut the ends of the plate at an angle you can spread the load a bit when you weld it.

Do disco 2 sliders normally bolt to the body not the chassis (like disco 1 sliders do) if so I can see why you want to weld them. As al say replacement and or sorting rust could be a problem in the future.

The sliders that I have seen for the D2 bolt on to the sills - so yes, the body. and as for rust, if i clear it all up now, it will probably see me out before it needs doing again :D
