beluga Posted September 15, 2017 Share Posted September 15, 2017 (edited) i have recently aquirred a 2002 03 model year (facelift) discovery td5, from what ive ben told by land rover its a police spec, although it hasnt been a police car as such, infact its led an interesting life as a control car at birmingham airport, ordered new by the airport, never registered as it didnt leave the airfield, until 2008 when for some reason it was road registered, mistakenly given an 02 prefix instead of a 52 (sept 02 build) but im told still never left the airport. im trying to find out a bit more about it, it has land rover "special vehicle" badges and chassis plate, i contacted land rover and thhey tell me its UK police spec with some other options, uprated transmission (auto), towing gear, heater, heavy duty alternator, split charge, extra battery, lamp guards, climate control, mats, seat covers, heavy duty mudflaps, heavy duty door straps, flashing beacon, spotlights and some other electrics/switches etc, what id like to know is what else does a "police" spec include ? Is there any suspension upgrades, ecu etc ? It has 16" steel wheels, ACE and rear air suspension. as its never really left the airport its pretty impressive underneath, no mud anywhere, the underside looks like a much younger vehicle, no rot or evidence of welding, just some light surface rust on chassis, factory writing/markings can still be seen in places and all the floors etc are still white. not sure what il do with it yet, i like it but not really sure if i have room for it, or will really use it. Maverik Posted September 20, 2017 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Nice looking vehicle, looks tidy, but you should get something on the chassis and get it treated inside too stop the death rot setting into those rear legs. Regarding police upgrades, I think depending on what vehicle it is they used to do a lot of the special "tuning" in house, have you plugged it into a nanocom to see if you get any further info there, that's where you'll probably find any tuning info.
