simonpelly
Hi Folks, Bit of digging suggests that the connector highlighted in the picture is C786 - Main harness to air conditioning unit behind the fuse unit. Thinking that it might be a useful connection for some auxiliary kit - it has both power and aux power. Found a compatible connector from Kojaycat Automotive - 4W-CNA-NAT Anyway, the question is how best to find a negative source without splitting current wiring harness. Thinking it might be better to run back to the battery. However, are there any other convenient negative connections under the dash (current dash fully taken out). Many Thanks, Simon... vulcan bomber
Any bit of body work would be fine. I usually run any earths to the closest screw/bolt.
Maverik
As VB says, I'd just make a ring connection and connect it to one of the bolts that secure the fuse box to the bulkhead, but if you're running cables a direct earth wouldn't do any harm, I've got a habit of running an extra cable in a bundle just in case. If you're planning on using for big current stuff then I'd edge towards running a earth directly back to the battery.
simonpelly
"ring connection and connect it to one of the bolts that secure the fuse box to the bulkhead" - Great idea. It's not for high current. Many Thanks all for replying, Simon...
Maverik
An alternative - drill a small hole in the fuse panel in a space and nut/bolt earth in place, I think my 86 truck has a standard earth here in a similar way.
FridgeFreezer
An M6 bolt through the bulkhead at a safe & convenient point - you can get a lot of 6mm ring terminals on it. Give it a smear of vaseline or waxoyl /dinitrol etc. (AFTER connection) to prevent corrosion.
Maverik
urmm the fuse box bolts to the bulkhead? why need to drill any more holes etc...

simonpelly
Genius idea. Will use the fuse bolts as suggested. Thanks, Simon...
Mo Murphy
Wouldn't be hard to run a wire from the battery negative to the bolt and make a really good earth that not reliant on rusty nuts and bolts to get back to the battery. Just a thought Mo
landroversforever
I'd also be trying to run a big earth separately. Anything to try and reduce the electrolytic corrosion in the body.
