Arjan
As mentioned before, the starter motor on the 200 Tdi died and I was not looking forward to replacing it after all the good news on it I read. Somewhere under there there is a starter motor Eventually, it came out All in all, the job wasn't too bad. But one has to remove a lot of hoses, tubes etc.. However, I have to say that it really made clear I need to plan for some serious work in the engine bay to stop oil leaks, tidy the lot and.... convert it to LHD. The Mrs. decided the Ninety is to stay. A bit shocked, I asked "are you sure" and she said she is. Once a few things have been seen to... Oh dear... neil110
Not sure I like the sound of "once a few things have been attended to"
Maverik
You didn't say it was a Disco 200.... now that's a totally different kettle of fish to a defender 200... A lot easier on most accounts...
steve200TDi
Haha, I was going to sat it looks a bit different! Steve
daveturnbull
Converting that to LHD is going to be fun challenging. You'll have to run the lower steering column through the middle of the turbo!
Maverik
I really hope that's not blood at the top of the last picture....
monkie
Did it bite you? Looks like its taken a bit of blood from you on the manifolds.
Arjan
Yes, it is blood Yes, it is a Ninety with a 200 Tdi Yes, converting this to LHD will be fun No, it is the real 200 Tdi engine for a Defender... Mo Murphy
Oh no it isn't, that's a Discovery / Range Rover 200 Tdi. Mo
Arjan
Please explain...
Mo Murphy
The Defender has a different manifold and ancillary layout. The turbo is mounted higher and it has a different timing case to suit. Here's a quick photo from mine. Mo
daveturnbull
The low down turbo is very much discovery origin, but the dipstick is in the wrong place for a disco 200.
Mo Murphy
Yup Dave, I imagine that if it's a Defender lump with the wrong manifolds then the original dipstick would foul the exhaust manifold/turbo, that dipstick looks improvised. The air box is pre Tdi as well. Mo
Arjan
Engine No refers to 200 Tdi Defender. Knowing the history of the vehicle tc., I'm not surprised... But it runs, makes the noises etc...
western
If the engine number starts with 11L then it's a correct Defender unit, with Disco or RR manifolds.
Arjan
As I said, knowing where the vehicle has been, the people that worked on it in the early days, I'm not really surprised.. But it all works well, it is a good working vehicle so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks.
RedLineMike
That's a 300tdi turbo & manifolds, give away is the turbo intake being rear facing & egr blanking plate

Maverik
Interesting, I'd not clocked the turbo orientation, seems to be a v belt at the front. A hybrid it seems...
