Scotts90
Haha, my mate has train horns on his Scania, they're loud too. I recently installed a pair of two foot long "bugles" onto a coach for a good friend as he has similar "can't see the big white bus" moments! Arjan
Working with trains & locomotives, the original ones are waaaay too loud.... Make sure when you test to wear ear protection.
steve b
Where are you going to mount them Nige ? I had some on my 109 for a while but they really don't like water and mud and I didn't want them on the roof so they didn't last long .. They also like plenty of flow with the pressure so big bore feed pipe should be fitted . Enjoy Steve b
Davo
Ah, but do they play "La Cucaracha"??? But yes, you're certainly on the right track with those.

We also fitted some to our bus for this same reason, but I would fit them as a separate horn switch or have a disabled switch so you can use the normal horns without the air horns. Also watch out I have seen drivers temporarily loose control when they are startled by the horn.

mad_pete
187 dB seems dangerously loud to me. That’s rocket take off loud. How far away are needing to warn people ?? That’s not “watch out” loud that’s “freak out jump out of your skin” loud with probably an element of hearing damage thrown in.

I'm willing to bet that's very, very illegal to use.
mad_pete
I don’t think there is an upper legal limit. Db is a logarithmic scale so 187 dB is a lot lot louder than 90 dB. The db meter on my phone tops out way in the red at 130 dB. Hopefully just this once HfH will engineer this down a bit not up. :-)

neil110
Given the logarithmic nature of the Db scale, an additional 3Db equates to a doubling in volume so an additional 97 Db is going to be 32 times louder. A bit like sticking your head inside the exhaust nozzle of a Saturn 5 at take off. https://www.alpinehearingprotection.com/wiki/5-sound-levels-in-decibels/

zardos
Probably a typo from Nige or the seller (or the seller lying because a bigger number is better for sales) As most horns of this type quote 149/150 Db

ianl1
Surely if 3db increase is twice as loud then 97db increase is 4294967296 times as loud (aprox)
