Dave64 Posted December 5, 2017 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Hi Guys, Sorting out a bit of wiring/plumbing on this TDI 200 12L engine, what is this device, what does it do and where does it go to? Still waiting for a mate to photostat me a few pages from his workshop manual, got most of it sorted, can't seem to find just where the end of this cable/hose is supposed to go. Flying blind at the moment. Looks like either a breather of some sort or a plug that hooks up to something or other. western Posted December 5, 2017 Share Posted December 5, 2017 That is the vacuum pump for the brake servo, the hose from the top cover must go to the non return valve connection on the brake servo front face. you can see the route of my hose on my defender spec 200tdi. David Sparkes Posted December 6, 2017 Share Posted December 6, 2017 'Canister affair' is not a term I recognise, so I cannot, with confidence, answer your question directly. If you don't need the vacuum you should blank off the inlet to the air pump, otherwise, instead of drawing air from a brake servo (and thus creating the necessary vacuum) the pump will draw air from the atmosphere into the crankcase, resulting in oil laden air emitting from any opening it can find.
