FridgeFreezer
Thought people may "enjoy" this... https://jalopnik.com/new-truck-frozen-in-mud-has-only-a-few-months-before-it-1821769043 TL;DR is a couple of idiots go off-roading on someone's (frozen) land, which turns out to be a lake... truck falls through frozen crust, is stuck. Idiots return with tractor to recover it, guess what happens... both things now stuck in frozen mud on private property, in a few months it will thaw into a lake and things will be even worse. Play stupid games and all that!
miggit
Only a prize numpty would take a 7 ton machine in to a place to tow a 3 ton car that's got stuck.... they obviously haven't heard of a winch, and are too stupid to recognise dry land! They are going to have a very expensive recovery bill!!

JohnnoK
Here's another botched job that ended up costing a LOT more than necessary..... http://www.wheels24.co.za/OffRoad_and_4x4/Bakkie_and_SUV/pics-landy-and-digger-fight-sinking-sands-and-lose-20171122
Shackleton
That's a job for a fairly hefty crane I'd assume? Edit: do I need to stress I mean if one can get safely close enough Edited January 7, 2018 by Shackleton
Scotts90
The Silverado doesn't look that stuck?...I've had a D3 on road tyres stuck deeper in mud than that (to my shame lol). Took about 3hrs and lots of swearing to dig the behemoth out. The backhoe on the other hand looks exceedingly bogged, I'm sure one of those huge American big-rig wreckers with extra long cable winches could extract them without too much pain? Happyoldgit
I imagine the difficulty could be that the ground has frozen hard after the vehicles became bogged?
missingsid
Don't get it, the JCB (or copy) should be an easy self recovery, just use the buckets to lift the chassis out of the mud, then use the slew to move it sideways until the wheels are on better ground?? Similar for the 360?
miggit
Yes but the original mishap was a lake, so there could be 10 foot of sludge before you get to anything solid, and the second one was what can only be described as quicksand!! Either way the safest way to recover them is with a very long winch cable, and keep the winching vehicle on dry land... In the first case there is no excuse, the Americans invented big winch drums on 10 wheels!
neil110
If the mud has frozen solid it should be possible to drive out, once you dig the wheels clear, put something under them to ensure that it isn't beached on the chassis and lay some soft ground mats. Been there, done that
