SolihullBeast
I have bought a set of 235 85 16 tyres and now looking to get wheels to fit them, however I can't seem to find a definitive answer on what wheel width I'll need? I am getting standard 16 inch steel modular. Advice would be much appreciated. Apologies if this has already been answered and I have missed it. Thanks Sam
Bowie69
7 is a good width. You can normally go to the tyre manufacturer's site and fine recommended rim width for each size.
SolihullBeast
Many thanks - I have just been offered some 16 x 8 by a friend, would they be too large? Sam
Bowie69
Depends on the manufacturer of the tyre....
western
IIRC 6.5 inch is the minimum, I've had 235/85 on my wolf steels with no problems, tyre manufacture website should specify the minimum width of wheel.
BogMonster
In practice 235s are fine on the standard 5.5 steels, but I think most manufacturers state 6 or 6.5 minimum. Would have thought 8s might be a bit wide. A 7x16 will certainly be fine.
Snagger
Land Rover use 7" for their 235 tyres on alloys and Discovery steel wheels. They used 7.50 tyres for the 6.5" HD (Wolf) rims, so that'd be a good lower limit as Ralph says. I'd stick to 7" rather than 8 as you' have better tyre bead and rim protection. Davo
That size tyre and Disco I steel rims are a really good combination.
Diff
6 inch is the standard minimum rim width for 238 85 X 16 and 7 inch is the maximum. Standard Land Rover white rims are 5.5 inch, wolf's are 6.5, standard Land Rover alloys are 7 inch. Most standard aftermarket modulars etc are 7 inch. 8 inch is too wide. Regards Diff.
