djcurnow
Hello Gang, I have acquired a 98 model 110 Defender. I have put the spare on the bonnet spare carrier but there is something missing. Can anyone tell me what system is used to secure wheel onto carrier? nnis Kind Regards Dennis
dailysleaze
Hi Dennis Take the bolts out and the black thing off, then turn it upside down. It pins the wheel with the ring. djcurnow
Excellent. Thank-you. The male thread on the one bolt had me a bit confused.
djcurnow
The question now is how to get the bonnet open. When the bonnet release is pulled the spare won't let the bonnet up. To get around this I cut a piece of garden hose 70mm long and split it. I placed it over the bonnet release to hold it in the pulled out position. Just need to remember to remove it when finished. Any other bright solutions to this problem.
Mutley
I'm guessing you want SENSIBLE answers!?! 😈
dailysleaze
You can either replace the bonnet spring (AGB710020) or wind it in with a screwdriver to stiffen the spring more
djcurnow
I might look at a stronger spring. "Sensible answers" where is the fun in that? Thanks all for your input.
Eightpot
That's why mitary defenders with a bonnet spare removed the bonnet latch and fitted two spring loaded bonnet clamps instead - mrc5314 Edited January 26, 2018 by Eightpot
Yostumpy
I have a short piece of roofing batten, 1" x 1 1/2", prob 4" long, with a V cut in one end, and then pull the cable, and slip on the "dolly peg". Works a treat, cost Nowt Edited January 27, 2018 by Yostumpy
