Agreed ^^^ This is telly... it's all pulp, Attenborough barely goes in depth these days, producers play for the big audience numbers and 9 out of 10 people don't give a flying FridgeFreezer's fist about how a spring mount is going to live somewhere else. Take it from someone who has lived this **** for the last year - if you want big numbers you have to sell yourself to the lowest common denominator.

On the build - there's plenty more SIIA's out there, go save one from a fate worse than hipsters. The only thing that I got a twinge about was the fleeting inference that they were doing something new. The one below has been around for years and is undoubtedly where they stole got the idea.

PS: as Mad_Pete called it half the vehicles on here would fall into the 'Restomod' genre if we were so inclined to identify with that scene. I want to drive my 45 year old RR every day... if that means a newer engine then I'm more than happy to oblige [and I paid gullible money for the best original car I could find]

Is there not a blue track car based defender doing the rounds also?

? Sorry I can't see a silver 90 on the bottom left.......

I get the feeling that if they'd started with a typical green laner and hacked it up there would be less objection, but when they set about a fully restored, mint, landie it is sort of upsetting for lovers of the brand. Maybe they'll do something like turn an E type into an off roaded next.......

I see the objection but I’ve got bits from a scrapped vechile before because that seemed like a good way to go, but then you find out why it was scrapped and that’s because the whole vehcile has been abused and neglected. And then that engine and gearbox after time and expense went in the bin and I started again. Now, I would definitely start from a known good vehcile. If they bought a knackered one they would have to restore it and then chop it about. So it’s not that different to buying a restored one and chopping it about. I’m not sure we are really that short of Series 2a’s yet.

I have been known to yes. I think beard is given as the mark of the shameless car modder.  The amount of series 1 and others that have become hybrid trailers and that’s all fine but have a beard and drop the front by 5 inches and that’s mod too far.  I’m saying is if you are doing a project get a solid base vehicle. I appreciate the mod will have almost certainly been TV ised for the program. I saw the article in LRM but not the program. LRO (yes I read those mags from time to time I know  I know) has a really low green one this month. Hope it’s not becoming a trend ...

No offence meant mad_pete all in fun.

But you are right!..... You mod something, anything to your needs, requirements, what you like! And it would be stupid not to use a solid base/foundation to start from! The end result does not have to be liked by all, so long as it suits you and your purpose so be it!?!

There will be some may be even most  that because of the current situation hold every Defender in whatever condition dear! And see them as the last of a dying breed and therefore a mod should consist mainly as a refurb?

Not overly sure which side of the fence i sit!?!.....But as long as you're not using mine i guess it's ok!?!

I'll chuck on out like that for half the 26K they sold it for. And I don't have a beard, so it must be better. Anyway, It wouldn't be fair coming from from me to say it is garbage, as modding series landies is what I am doing too. It is just that I want to improve my landy, and these guys, well let's just stop there shall we?

oh my that's just wrong.

Going with the Fast and Furious tuners handbook...Matt finish paint, screwed on arches and slammed...and a garish interior that would look great in a Chelsea truck.

Back to Goblin though, the Coyote Mustang V8 Capri: so many questions, so many issues. No answers.

Did they really stick a 500hp engine in a Capri and leave the standard brakes on it? C'mon 2.8injection legs with princess 4pots was a mod we did for 2.0pinto escorts....30yrs ago! Drivetrain? At the very least an old Cossie box/prop and diff would've coped...then the electrics... "A nightmare wiring up the old loom to the new"... really?? Didn't think Ford liked standalone ecu systems for their premium engines (unlike GM who will gladly tart out a specc'd up LS to fit anything).

They really missed a trick and could easily have spread that conversion out over a few episodes. Shame.

I thought the same.... If they were credible as a garage I'd like to think they actually spent some money on the running gear, but it wasn't included in their budget run through, so are they really putting safe cars back on the road?

I’ve watched a few of these now. Serious lack of anything actually being done. The upside down portal axle on the series is just a court case waiting to happen.

the last one I saw was a Capri they put a 5.0 mustang engine in.....looked like a failed abortion

Can you imagine what they would do to a real classic?

:Shudder:

Isn't that the drift car abortion that Kahn produced for Shane Lynch?...... There was a time when Rolls Royce would have objected to that, in  court....

And I must admit that I had my doubts about the Capri 4 stud setup and the alleged power... and by their own admission they have upped the power by 2.5 times and left the stopping gear as standard, I would  suspect that most insurance engineers would not recommend insuring it!

I’ve never quite understood more power needs more brakes. On the race track absolutely engine puts power into speed brakes take it out on the track brakes need to keep up but on the road all engines can get to the speed limit and you should brake in plenty of time anyway.  If you want some sprinted country lane driving might cook the brakes but if you are not doing that why does accelerating more quickly to your desired speed need more stopping power?

I think it is for a given strip of road between corners, you are more likely to be going much faster when you do get into trouble.

For A-roads not an issue, but round where I live, you are almost always on a sprint to the next corner.

I have no idea, clearly you are more in tune with this niche of the market ;)

Reading the ad rather than just screwing my nose up at the pictures, pointed me to this: http://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/video/tv/supercar-megabuild
