Bellhousing differences

Recommended Posts

Always wondered whether this was right on my 90...

Defender LT77, Disco 200TDi and I believe it’s the Disco bellhousing/flywheel housing? My brother changed it to the disco one when it went in and binned the old petrol one which may have fitted better?

It all works fine and doesn’t appear to get mud in the clutch but it looks there’s a gap with some sort of soft gasket in it, to the left of the bolt in the centre. Is that normal? Should I find a Defender one to fit when the engine and box come out? Anyone know the part number I need, or even better have one for sale?

The hole you refer to is the hole for the drain plug, presuming you are talking about the round hole, which they appear to have moved, possibly the thread was stripped in the original hole?

The part Nos for Bell housings are FRC9865  for a 50A gearbox https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/117167/0/housing___clutch

or FRC6154 for a 60A gearbox. https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/116983/0/housing___clutch

I know which of those you don't need it to be

The flywheel housings are: ERR1330 or ERR3924 (ERR1330 changes to ERR3924 anyway and the priice is umm eye watering.)

If you cannot find anybody on here who has one for sale, try Ashcroft transmissions, they may have what you seek and be willing to accept yours in Part ex  http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk

It may be worth your while to give them a call and talk to them about your perceived problem, you may find that your current set up is perfectly adequate

Hi Neil,

Sorry, should have circled the bit I mean first time around! There seems to be a gap to the left of the drain hole which I'm not sure is fully sealed? Hard to tell without pulling it apart but to me it looks like the right part would join the engine side completely, rather than having that gap there?

Was thinking of trying Ashcrofts but if someone knows the right part number or even better, has a couple of the right ones laying around that would be fantastic!

nothing wrong with it,

the gasket you can see is what is sealing the centre section of the backplate to the engine
