Cchase
Will a steering box from a 2004 Discovery fit on a 1995 Defender? Thanks, Colin
Mutley
I think there are x2 types?.... x6 bolts and x4 bolts???...... So long as you replace like for like it's fine, but i would hang fire 'till a qualified grown up confirms
miketomcat
There's four types of steering box manual, 3 bolt (inperial), 6 (heavy duty) and 4 (normal and fitted to the majority) both the last two are metric. From memory 6 and 4 are interchangeable. All 4 bolt are the same except the drop arm is different on discovery/ rangie classic to defender. So you will either need to change it (can be very hard to get off) or change both steering bars and the damper. Mike
Jon White
2004 would be disco 2. Completely different and won’t fit a defender.
Scotts90
Looking at a D2 steering box, the unit does look similar apart from the drop arm, it's got an offset rather than straight (d1) or bent (def). As for fixings, no idea. You'd really need them side by side to compare...thing is the D2 has been out of production for some time so if they did fit defenders with ease I would imagine someone on a forum would have documented it by now...
