Did you use the pu as a barrier? Galv to ally isn't the worst, but steel to ally is bad.

Google galvanic corrosion.

Not an issue in dry warm climates, but nightmare in  cold wet places.

This is a subject I have been kicking around for a while too. Just followed that link for the old manual and read that the recommended flux was 'Hari Kari' .  I couldn't find that on the net so I presume its long gone?..... in which case what flux does anyone recommend now please?,... I know when I get to the stage of trying it I am not the quickest pair of hands and I think flux is going to be essential to prevent the oxide layer reforming.
