There must always be some sort of balance between effort and costs even within a hobby. And yes, I prefer also to do it all by myself. The machined piece on it self looks strong enough but the point where it connects to the 50x6mm is a weak point, it needs bracing there. The forces will be enormous even more with portals: that makes the same effect as wheels with a diameter in the region of 1,2M/47"... Or drive like an old lady of course... And yes, I really like projects like this a lot! Edited August 8, 2021 by Carloz

Stellaghost
Simple job today, knocked up the 30x2 threaded boss for my Rose joint, could not use the existing boss as down on diameter for mating up to radius arm pipe diameter plus it is hollow I think solid bar will be much stronger, not much to look at on pictures I'm afraid regards Stephen Edited August 8, 2021 by Stellaghost

Mike ^ This is so important for me, I do believe, even if a post / thread is far removed from what you are actually doing you can pick up a snippet or learn something that could be recalled at a later date even if you can't remember where the thought was initially conceived. I would p!ead with all to post projects because speaking for myself I learn a hell of a lot about stuff that's out of my comfort zone but also stuff that's in my comfort zone. landroversforever
I’m thinking the threaded section for the rose joint will slip/press in there and be welded up?
landroversforever
Ohhhh or are you making a clevis for the chassis end?

Like I said earlier you really are a bright lad, spot on Ross, this will also incorporate rubber bushing as dampening, going to be a bit long winded turning it down but I would rather it was all made from one piece without welding regards Stephen
landroversforever
Why the rubber bushing if you’re going to be using that rose joint? Will it not just allow it to move about? And take away the locating properties of the rose joint?

The rubber bushing is an industrial coupling rubber cut in two and will be located into cups at the chassis end so should be no movement other than a slight give under severe loading which should be enough that the additional weight of the axles doesn't stress the chassis, it's just another idea I'm looking at at the moment I'm conscious that the chassis attatchment points will also need to be made stronger so by incorporating a wee bit of dampening I'm hoping to protect the chassis as well for any shock that affects the chassis outside strengthened areas It has been mentioned through out this thread that stress and loading due to the weight of the axles needs to be accounted for I guess I'm just trying to do that in all areas Your comments as always gratefully received regards Stephen

Stellaghost
Managed to get a bit more done tonight I did say it would be a bit of a long slog First off I attacked my hole with a 9" grinder ( oops sounds a bit oo errr ) then into Mill had to angle Mill head initially as not enough height below cutter Then got one flat side done regards Stephen
FridgeFreezer
Wow, definitely not under-built Reminds me of the occasion when, pushed for time building the racer, Vince machined a set of dislocation cones from solid whilst at work

Anderzander
Your swarf is probably more heavy duty than some of the suspension components you can buy for land rovers. Brilliant work ! Fascinated to see what you do with the chassis to fit it all together. 2 1
