compression test results

Thought I start a specific thread for another one of my problems...

On running the engine for the first time in many years, it smoked a lot and smelled fumey.

It has a new carb which I adjust the mixture by using a vacuum gauge and the choke is functioning.

I did a compression test this morning and the results are.

1980 2 1/4 petrol

ENGINE COLD.

DRY                                                               WET (small amount of oil in bores)

1  185                                                            200

2  160                                                            170

3  170                                                            180

4  160                                                            170

To me number 1 seems high but don't know why it would be?

Any cause for concern in your opinions??

Thanks
