Salisbury axle. End float on halfshafts,

Hi there, just a quick query ref the back axle that I fitted and forgot about 10 years and 30,000miles ago.

The Salisbury axle is a real lump and having spent my lifetime as an engineer of the old school I do like to have mass in a stressed component. It certainly satisfies that requirement!

Preparing for our annual trip I have noticed that there is end float on the halfshafts, between the circlip and the driving member. About 2.5mm.

Should there be a thrust washer between the circlip and its mating face? Is it o.k. to run it with this clearance?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Many Thanks Labranda.
