Workshop electric use calculator (heating cost etc.)

Recommended Posts

I made this mostly for my own curiosity but thought others might find it useful when working out ways to heat workshops; from robspark's very helpful guidance when I was extending my garage I had the idea to make this tool to play with:

http://fuddymuckers.co.uk/tools/electric_cost.html

It just works out electricity cost for a given wattage so could just as well tell you how much it costs to leave your telly on 24/7

It shows you've got to go a long way to beat a couple of £15 3kW electric heaters in a workshop.

At the other end, if you left a 5W LED bulb on 24/7/365 as a security light it would cost you £6.60 / year, hardly worth buying a PIR!

Current default of 15p/kWh is just above the standard UK average.

Other ones I've made:

Vehicle Wiring Cable size calculator (also fuses, voltage drop, etc.)

MPG Comparison Tool

Running Cost Comparison Tool (basically the MPG one plus a bit)
