Gazzar
I have need of a new pin for a Dixon bate slider, but they are expensive, £15 to £20 each. I have a chunk of 19mm bar stock, mild steel. Can I use that? Or does it have to be super duper magic steel? G.
Ed Poore
I would have thought it's got a good chance of being hardened being critical to the towing capability. Certainly other Dixon Bate pins for different style towbars are hardened. My suspicion is that mild steel with repeated shock loading from towing would dent the outer surface over time. Retroanaconda
£20 is cheap for peace of mind!
Arjan
I'd get the original one - with a receipt... These days, you need to be covered.
western
I'd buy the original pin for the reason above.

landroversforever
You'd have to be careful with hardened stuff... too hard and it could fracture, but some hardness would be beneficial to stop it wearing from the hole locations. Equally the pin may be supposed to be soft to wear before the more expensive sliders.
