slihp
Seems my front diff is exhibiting a bit of this now. First I've heard of diff slap so wanting to know more. What's the implications, fix and cost or any info on it would be welcome.
landroversforever
Diff slap?! I guess you're meaning backlash (slop between the pinion turning and the crownwheel turning)? If so it's rebuild time, I'd imagine the crown wheel and pinion will be worn and require replacement so you've got things like the pinion height to set. In my opinion you're best off having it done by a specialist like Nigel @Hybrid_From_Hell At Xcess4x4.com.
slihp
Am I right in thinking it can be either play in the diff as you say or play at either end of the halfshafts which would be an easier fix?
landroversforever
If it's the front it could be play between the drive flanges and the CV joint.
slihp
Fingers crossed a quick inspection should reveal.
Disco-Ron
Pinion to crownwheel..... Planet gears to each other.... driveshaft to spine in output gear.... Outer end of shaft to cv... Cv itself... Cv outer to flange.... There can be slack in all these places.....
