Gazzar
I'm restocking my electrical bits box, so buying stuff in bulk. I that a lot of stuff is available in stainless, is this as good as copper? 6.3mm spade connectors? I'll be crimping the terminals. Confused (as usual) G. mickeyw
Stainless crimps? Can't say I've come across then before. I thought most were tin plated copper.
mmgemini
I too buy in bulk from Vehicle Wiring Products, I have done so since they were Merv Plastics when they were in Beeston. I have only seen plain brass or a tinned product, You must relise I crimp and solder, I don't remember any problems with the way I work
Superpants
Stainless is highly uncommon- Are you sure they actually are fully stainless? I would generally avoid stainless- it has a significantly lower conductivity than copper (and it's alloys), and plated copper has very good corrosion resitance. Bowie69
That as my reaction also, crimps are generally plated materials for better corrosion resistance, and not stainless, if they were a good idea all the manufacturers would be using them, and as far as I know, they are not. FridgeFreezer
I'd wonder about the force required to properly deform a stainless crimp to create a good joint.
Gazzar
I was curious, saw them on ebay for little money, China, glad I asked. Thanks. G.
110 V8
Stainless is typically used in very high temp applications, cooker elements etc where the temp would cause tinned copper to loose it's spring tension then arc and fail. They need a special crimper. Tinned copper is better unless ambient temp prevents it's use. Andy
FridgeFreezer
Ah, I knew someone would have a good answer. Makes perfect sense. BTW you can buy genuine Tyco crimps from RS/Farnell/CPC for not-insane money as long as you want a bag of 100.
